Piper updates computer building and coding for kids

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.   Building a working computer and learning to code with it may sound like a lot for kids as young as seven to take on, but Piper Computer has been making that possible with its fun kits….like the new Piper Computer Kit 2 and a new command center for building a programming a game controller as well.  That’s designed for 13 year olds and up.  We love what they are doing and Piper’s Chief Academic Officer Melissa Belardi says...

“We believe that every student should be armed with the skills they need for the 21st century as well as for the automation of the workforce and jobs we don’t even know will exist yet.  And so that’s what we’re trying to do for students.  Ensuring that they are digitally fluent and they have 21st century skills in problem solving, critical thinking and effective collaboration.”

The approach at Piper is unique, engaging…and we think…very smart.  Find more at www.playpiper.com.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  Computer storage has been evolving….from traditional hard drives with spinning disks, to solid state drives using SATA connections or SSDs….and now to what are called  PCIe NVME drives.   Kingston Technology will be launching its new A2000 drive this summer and says the company’s David Leong…

“NVME uses a little bit more power than SATA and it gives off more heat than SATA SSDs.  So with an A2000, it is single sided, meaning the controller and the chips are all on one side, so it’s super thin, goes up to a terabyte and it’s a little bit slower than its older cousin the KC2000.  It’s perfect for laptops.”

And it will still be considerably faster than SATA drives.  What it means for us consumers is more storage in smaller spaces.

COO Paul Stich says it is a bi-partisan platform…

“It gives you a way to engage…do you support this..or disagree with it and then leave comments.  And we moderate the comments section very well..so we keep it respectful.  But we also keep it balanced, so we make sure the comments aren’t all focused, directed from the liberals or all from the conservative side.”

Kind of an old concept…made new again.
