  • How AI can help at any age- GetSetUp

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin.    How AI  can help at any age.     GetSetUp, the online learning and community platform for older adults, has created Helen…an AI tool that is designed to make artificial intelligence more approachable.   On the What’s Next Living Longer Better Smarter podcast,  CEO Lawrence Kosick said Helen can assist in helping to find topics of interest on GetSetUp and more…

“If we ask it a question about exercise or about fitness or about travel, it can not only go and look at those most relevant sources, it can then combine them and deliver it in a format or recommendation that it thinks might be most useful.”

Kosick says many older adults are a little anxious or reluctant to make use of AI.  That’s why GetSetUp has a class to help learn how to use Helen.    You can find us at Techstination.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.

  • Caseta Smart Shades a welcome smart home addition

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin.    We’ve been long time fans of the smart home gear from Lutron and the new Caseta Smart Shades  are a welcome addition.   They are designed for do it yourself installation and start at under 400 dollars.     We like that you can control them through a Pico Remote, through the Lutron app….or by voice….Google, Alexa and Apple Home too.     Being able to schedule the shades to open or close at different times of day can be pretty convenient and can save you money on heating or cooling…

“Or we also have functionality that tracks the time of sunset and sunrise.”

Marketing Manager Damon Williams.  The Smart Shades are available in a variety of styles…including roller or honeycomb….room darkening or light filtering too.   Find more at Casetawireless.com.

  • Ford Mustang turns 61-still has muscle

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin    It has been the everyperson’s sports car for more than six decades.   The Ford Mustang is marking 61 years this spring….and it still has some muscle.    It was first unveiled at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York.   That brings back some great memories for some of us who have been around that long.  And it remains America’s best selling sports car again.   What’s behind the longevity?   Mustang Brand Manager Joe Bellino…

“I think really it’s Mustang’s ability to offer a variation or have a Mustang for everyone, as we like to call it.  So whether it’s coupe or convertible, manual or automatic, V* or turbo charged 4 cylinder, we have something for everyone that meets their needs.”

Don’t forget there’s the all electric Mustang Mach-E too.    For more, of course the site is Ford.com.

  • Family history gift for Mother's Day? Ancestry.com offering deals.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin.     Searching for gift ideas for Mother’s Day?    A subscription to Ancestry.com or a DNA kit can be a gift that keeps on giving opening doors into the past.     Ancestry Genealogist Crista Cowan says one of the great new AI tools…which we love too….is called Recognize Ancestor…

“You  upload a photo, and we all have them, of people that you’ve inherited photos from, and maybe you know one or two of the people in that picture, but maybe there’s three or four people in that picture that you don’t know.  And uploading the photos and using our new AI Recognize Ancestor feature, allows you to see if we can tell you who we think that person in that photo might be.”

Ancestry.com has a special deal to check out this first coming  week of May.

  • Battle against cyber-scams gets tougher all the time

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin.   A new fraud report from AARP points out that many of us aren’t doing nearly enough to lessen the risks.   64 percent of adults reuse passwords across multiple accounts.   Similar numbers don’t use VPNs when on public WiFi.   AARP Director of Fraud Prevention Programs, Kathy Stokes says the battle is getting more difficult all of the time...with AI presenting even more dangers…

“It really is.   I refer to this new artificial intelligence as the ..sort of the industrial revolution for fraud criminals.   It just give them so much more to work with.”

All the more reason to be skeptical of links in emails, text messages and Web sites.   Find more at www.aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork.
