  • As EU 5G and US 5G speed forward, are they on the same tracks?
Dr. Konstantinos Stavropoulos of Product Marketing for Amdocs, a 5G authority, reviews the current status of the EU 5G and US 5G implementations to Don Witt of The Channel Daily News from Telecom Reseller providing a very good description of both EU and US efforts in trying to accelerate the process.
Irrespective of the EU stance, it is important for service providers to optimize their utilization of spectrum, in a ‘static’ or ‘dynamic’ manner. The deployment of new, more spectrum-efficient wireless technologies – incl. 5G – is one approach but not the single one. We can expand on these approaches, as required.

The EU requirements could apply to government-owned (similar to the Spectrum Access System or SAS discussion in the US) and to unlicensed spectrum, and potentially even to service provider owned spectrum. In the latter case, service providers would lease their available spectrum to other service providers, based on a ‘similar’ logic to SAS. Of course, the commercial and technical implications here are significant. Again, we can expand on those, as required.
Would the EU penalize countries and/or service providers who do not ‘use spectrum effectively and efficiently’? Service providers may have to prove that they are using this valuable resource in the best possible way. Maybe EU would standardize a spectrum efficiency index, similar to the energy efficiency index we have been used to. The definition of this index would be an interesting exercise, and we can expand on the challenges associated with such an exercise.

In this podcast Angela Hlavka tells us about IluminariTech, their website UCWorkspace and Quicklaunch. "The expectations on the organization have never been better," says Hlavka. According to Hlavka, Quicklaunch and the company's recent announcements are meeting those expectations.

  • Sound Like an Enterprise
    by Gary Audin

My first impression when I call a company is how well does the system that answers the call work? Does the sound equal that of a PSTN call or more like a common VoIP call? As a reseller, you are looking for a high quality, low risk, low labor solution for your customers.

  • Contact Center Console for Skype4B
    by Gary Audin

You are migrating to Skype for Business (Skype4B). You also have contact center operations. You want to blend the two together. The console for managing the contact center operations is important. Most consoles in the past have been text oriented and not very intuitive. What you would like is a console that is more fun, more engaging, easy-to-use, and requires less training. You still need a visual display of the status the calls. You want to retain the context contact center style reporting.

Scott Logan, VP Marketing, Americas at Enghouse Interactive www.enghouseinteractive.com and Gary Audin recorded this podcast at the Microsoft Ignite conference. The recorded conversation dives into the contact center operations and how to use and operate with Skype for Business. Scott discusses a new Attendant Console for Skype4B console solution native to the Skype4B Cloud PBX and accessible directly from Microsoft Office 365. • Planning wireless and more in the workplace
Everyone has had the experience of being in a work space, hotel lobby or other public area where wireless has been poorly planned. Today, access to wifi is as critical as any other factor in planning the places people work and recreate.

Making a workspace actually work for your employees means rethinking the office environment in terms of people, spaces and tools. When these three factors harmonize, employees benefit from a culture that encourages collaboration, spaces that bring them together and tools that allow them to interact in ways that make the most sense for tasks at hand.

In this TEC37 pre-recorded webinar, Joe Berger, manager of WWT’s Collaboration Practice, David Lathrop, director of the Applied Research Network for Steelcase Inc., Brandon Echele, business video practice manager for WWT, and Dave Blatt, director of business development for WWT Asynchrony Labs, will dive deeper into what’s needed for investments in workspaces to pay off and ultimately inspire innovation.
