  • 4th Friday Great Compline

The Order of Great Compline for the Fourth Friday of the Great Fast.

While in the Greek recensions (Greek, Melkite, Romanian, etc), it has become the custom to do Small Compline with a section of the Akathist Hymn on the first four Fridays of the Fast, the older practice still maintained by the Slavic Churches (Ukrainian, Ruthenian, Belarusian, Russian, etc) is to continue with Great Compline on Friday evening as it is a fasting day, albeit in a more abridged manner with less singing. We normally take the Canon of the Departed in the tone of the week for the odes of the day (6,7,8&9) and of the saint of the day for Saturday for the remaining odes, since the saint's commemoration is omitted at Orthros. However, as stated before, due to time restraints I am unable to add the Compline Canons this year.

  • 4th Thursday Great Compline

The Order of Great Compline for a Thursday of the Great Fast. Since on Friday of the 4th Week we only commemorate the Cross and not the saint of the day at Matins, at Compline we sing the Canon(s) of the Saint of the Day for the 4th Friday, this year March 28th, Our Venerable Fathers Hilarion the New and Stephen the Wonderworker. As mentioned before, due to time constraints I am unable to record saints' canons for Compline this year.

About Telethros (Gregorian)

From the publisher's feed

In this podcast, I will be uploading reader versions of services in the Byzantine Rite, on the Gregorian Calendar, mostly according to the usage of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. These are meant as guides to accompany and even direct life in the domestic church. We all live much busier lives than our ancestors, whose rural living in tight-knit villages around their parish churches allowed them to live their lives to the rhythm of the Church Year. We, however, often find ourselves commuting long distances or working longer hours which don't allow us the luxury of daily church attendance. So many of us turn to home prayer rules, but resources can often be few and far between, and even when they do exist, they can be complicated and time consuming to use. That's where this podcast wants to provide some support. By making the reader services, as they would be done un-priested in home or church worship, available in an audio-only format, my hope is that more of us can be uplifted by the liturgical core of our Byzantine Spiritual and Liturgical Tradition to maintain our prayer life in our busy modern lives.
