Dr. John Ankerberg in this exclusive interview given to our camera crew during a conference held in Dallas, Texas during 1999. John Ankerberg is an American Christian evangelist and TV presenter. He is an ordained minister and has written 91 books focusing on religious subjects. He is the producer and host of the nationally televised weekly half-hour program "The John Ankerberg Show" ("The Television Program Producer of the Year Award" -- National Religious Broadcasters, 1992). Ankerberg holds degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Luther Rice Seminary. In 1987, Ankerberg presented evidence that exposed moral failings of televangelist Jim Bakker, which included solicitation for sex and homosexual relations. In 1995 Ankerberg and other evangelical leaders expressed opposition to the proposed Evangelicals and Catholics Together ecumenical document designed to foster a sense of unity and cooperation between Protestant evangelicals and Catholics. This opposition resulted in a meeting which drafted an amendment clarifying the beliefs of the evangelical signers, which stated that "cooperation with evangelically committed Roman Catholics, does not imply acceptance of Roman Catholic doctrinal distinctives or endorsement of the Roman Catholic Church system." Ankerberg stated that the meeting "heals the breach", but "failed to mollify the concerns of many evangelicals." I want to talk to you tonight and next Sunday night about the issue of forgiveness. It probably doesn't come up as often as it should in our discussions from the pulpit here because it is a very, very important issue. What makes it an important issue in the church, and we're talking to believers tonight, we're not so much talking about God's forgiveness toward us as we're talking about our forgiveness toward each other. But it is a very vital and a very essential and a very necessary component of life in the church because the church, even at its best, is a collision of sinners. We all understand that. We are guilty of saying the wrong thing, and behaving in wrong ways. We have all offended people. We have all caused people to stumble. We have all crossed the line of discretion into indiscretion and the way we deal with people and treat people. We have all showed preferential treatment at times. We have all been less than considerate to people in need. We have failed to give to folks what they need at the time they need it. There are many, many points at which sinners collide in the church. And because the church is a very intimate fellowship, only to be exceeded in its intimacy by family, we borrow that image, don't we?, the image of a family. After Jesus was tortured and resurrected, he went up through the clouds and the Angels said he would return again through the clouds. Then Millions of Christians were tortured and put to death by lions and wild dogs in Roman arenas. Stephen, a patriot leader of a movement gave a magnificent defense to the angry Sanhedrin' Jews referring to Abraham, David and the apostate Jewish heritage of Israel. The enraged religious leaders attacked ferociously and stoned him to death. His face shone like an Angel as he prayed that God would forgive them for their sin. In Psalm22 David prophesies many details of Jesus agony on the cross. In Matthew and Mark, they relate the details of this agony as he cries, "my God why have you forsaken me" but he didn't. Jesus was raised with power and glory and promised to return to rule the earth. Paul prophesies in second Thessalonians 2, the rapture of the Saints and calls it the "day of Christ" mentioned five times in Scripture not the "day of the Lord" mentioned more than 100 times, when he comes in Revelation 16:15 as a thief at the battle of Armageddon and destroys the whole earth. Only in one place in the book of Revelation does it describe anyone going up in the clouds. This one place in Revelation 11 is the rapture. Here is a list of the signs.
