It feels like the first time! We’re back, covering a slew of topics for you. Since we last podded, Peacock has surprisingly wormed its way into one of our hearts. Where did Phoebe Waller-Bridge go, and why is Amazon angry with her? Then, we dive into SNL’s legendary run and hypothesize about its future. Is Keenan Thompson overpaid? Will he replace Lorne Michaels as a showrunner? And who was the best host of the past 10 years? All of this and more on this week’s episode!

Dear Listeners…we’re just going to rip the band-aid off–we are taking a break from releasing new episodes. We will be taking a few months to watch some TV shows and compile some research so that we can bring you the kind of high quality podcast that you deserve! Televisionary has been a labor of love from both of us, and is still a passion project that we are dedicated to on top of our “real life” responsibilities. We have some big plans for the next season of the show, and we’re excited to be bringing them to you in the not-too-distant future. Until then, follow us on Instagram and TikTok for all of your Televisionary needs.

This week, Televisionary welcomes avid listener Gabby Kennedy to the pod to discuss one of her favorite shows, Our Flag Means Death. This HBOMax cult hit is more than just a show about gay pirates–it’s boundary pushing blend of historical fact and over-the-top silliness that imagines a world where queerness simply exists without prejudice. Gabby leads Cody and Alayna through an examination of the historical accuracy of the show and its themes, takes a stab at their favorite characters, and dissects why the show has gained such an ardent and active fanbase.

This week, Cody and Alayna talk about all of the random shows they watched while growing up. Alayna shouts out Heidi Fleiss, recommends the podcast Heidiworld, and takes it back to a place of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Cody tells the tale of waking up at 5:57AM every morning to watch Mama’s Family, questions his teenage love of America’s Next Top Model, and stays neutral on the Disney versus Nickelodeon debate.

Netflix just announced what is perhaps the biggest reality show ever: Squid Game: The Challenge. Though it hopefully won’t reach the Hunger Games-like intensity of the actual Squid Game, it does promise a massive cash prize of $4.56 million–a number that may just entice Cody and Alayna to submit their own audition tapes. Plus, Cody and Alayna get into the weird timing of Netflix’s expansion into mobile gaming, the future of streamer Peacock, and the surprising revitalization of the summer box office!
