Marla Ridenour became the first woman beat reporter , covering the Cleveland Browns for the Dayton Daily News in 1981. Prior to that, she was the first woman editor of the Eastern Kentucky University student newspaper in 1975. In recent months, she retired as sports columnist from the Akron Beacon Journalist. She has won numerous honors from the Associated Press, the PFWA, and the Golf Writers Association.
