Temple Baptist Church - Fort Worth

Continuing our Jesus + Nothing = Everything series, Pastor Doug teaches from Galatians 2:15–21, where Paul explains that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not through good works, religious performance, or obedience to the law. Through Christ's finished work on the cross, we are forgiven, declared righteous, and set free from the burden of trying to earn God's approval.

Galatians 2:20 reminds us that we have been crucified with Christ and that He now lives in us. Our identity is no longer defined by our failures, feelings, or circumstances, but by who we are in Jesus. His grace gives us the freedom and power to live a transformed life through faith.

This message challenges us to stop relying on our own efforts, embrace our new identity in Christ, and continually remember the gospel through practices like Communion. Because Jesus is sufficient for our salvation and our everyday lives, we can rest in His grace and live with confidence in His love.

What happens when fear of others causes us to compromise what we believe?

This week, we explore Galatians 2, where Paul confronts Peter for allowing fear and social pressure to influence his actions. Although Peter knew that salvation comes through grace and faith in Jesus Christ alone, his decision to separate himself from Gentile believers contradicted the very gospel he proclaimed.

Peter’s story reminds us that even mature Christians can struggle with hypocrisy, pride, and the desire for acceptance. Our actions influence those around us, making it essential to surround ourselves with people who will lovingly hold us accountable and encourage us to walk faithfully with Christ.

What does it look like to stand firm in the freedom of the gospel when fear, pressure, and cultural expectations make it easier to stay silent?

This week, Pastor Doug walks through Galatians 2 and reminds us that Jesus is enough. Paul refused to allow legalism or human expectations to be added to the gospel, choosing instead to stand firmly in the freedom Christ provides.

This message challenges us to live boldly for Jesus in our everyday relationships, to develop a “holy backbone” when our faith is tested, and to share the gospel with the people God has placed closest to us.

What happens when our desire for people’s approval becomes more important than our desire to please God?

Continuing the Jesus + Nothing = Everything series, Walt Troup teaches from Galatians 1:10 about the power of the gospel and the danger of seeking the approval of others. Paul makes it clear that following Jesus means living to please God rather than allowing the expectations, opinions, and approval of people to shape our faith.

Through Jesus Christ, salvation is a gift of grace through faith, not something we can earn through good works, religious performance, or human effort. The gospel is powerful because Jesus is enough.

In a culture shaped by comparison, social media, and the constant pursuit of affirmation, this message challenges us to turn our eyes toward Jesus, renew our minds, and find our identity in what Christ has already accomplished.

Jesus + Nothing = Everything.

What is the gospel, and why does it matter that we get it right?

As we continue our study through Galatians, this message looks at Paul’s urgent warning against turning to a different gospel. The gospel is not something we improve by adding our efforts, religious traditions, or personal achievements. It is the good news of what God has accomplished through Jesus Christ.

The call of Galatians 1 is both joyful and sobering: rejoice in the true gospel, cling to it, and resist anything that distorts the good news of Jesus Christ.

What happens when we believe that Jesus is enough, but still feel the need to add something to earn God’s approval?

In the opening message of our new series, Pastor Doug begins a verse-by-verse journey through the book of Galatians and lays the foundation for one of the clearest truths of the gospel: Jesus + Nothing = Everything.

Paul’s letter to the Galatians confronts the temptation to add human effort, religious performance, tradition, or self-righteousness to what Jesus has already accomplished. The gospel is not a message created by people, and it is not something we improve by adding our own achievements. It is the good news of grace through Jesus Christ.

What happens when following Jesus costs you something?

In this final message of the Enough series, Pastor Doug takes us back to the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 and focuses on Jesus’ challenging words: “God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”

The Beatitudes have shown us a radically different picture of what it means to live a blessed and flourishing life. Jesus turns the values of the world upside down, calling His followers to humility, mercy, righteousness, purity, peacemaking—and ultimately, faithfulness even when that faithfulness brings opposition.

Persecution isn't always comfortable, and it isn't always easy to recognize. But Jesus makes it clear that following Him means belonging to a different Kingdom. When the world pushes back against our faith, we are called not to retreat, compromise, or seek approval, but to remain faithful because Jesus is enough.

“God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.”

Biblical peace is more than avoiding conflict or keeping things comfortable. Jesus calls His followers to actively work for peace because God has already made peace possible through Christ. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus reconciles us to God and gives us the calling to carry that peace into our relationships, families, communities, and the world.

Ultimately, working for peace is part of what identifies us as God’s children. Because Jesus is enough, we can pursue reconciliation, extend grace, and faithfully work for peace even when it comes at a cost.

This week, we step away from our normal sermon series for a special Summer Recap Sunday, celebrating the ways God has been at work through Temple Baptist Church throughout the summer.

Pastor Doug invites members of the church to the stage to share stories and testimonies from this summer’s events, including Kids Camp, VBS, and other ministry experiences. From children demonstrating compassion in the middle of chaos, to generations of families serving and growing together, these stories point to God’s faithfulness at work in ordinary moments.

But the heart of the morning is bigger than any individual event or testimony. It is an invitation to stop, celebrate, and give thanks for what God has done, what He is doing, and what He will continue to do.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his faithful love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1

As we look back on this summer, we are reminded that these aren't simply stories about events. They are stories of God at work in the lives of His people.
