This Sunday we welcome back the Ford family from Moldova. They have been our missionaries there for many years and are here for a short visit to take their eldest child to university. Moldova is a difficult place to minister, and God has used the Fords mightily. Daniel will be giving an update on their work as well as be preaching on the glorious passage of Romans 8:18-30. Happy Canada Day weekend! This Sunday, our own Mike Racinsky, will be unpacking the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector found in Luke 18:9-14. Mike is the director of NEXT Gen ministries for FEB Central (our region within the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches) and it is a privilege to have Mike, Sara and their two children as members of Temple.

“Therefore, there is no longer condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” These words kick off what is called “the inner sanctuary within the cathedral of the Christian faith.” They are the beginning words of the grand chapter of Romans 8 that has been a bulwark for so many believers including myself, down through the centuries. We will be specifically looking at Romans 8:1-17 and the amazing promises of new life in the Holy Spirit and being co-heirs with Christ.

Happy Father's Day! Do you ever not do the good you want to do? If so, you are in good company with one of the greatest Christians to ever live - the Apostle Paul. Paul gets very transparent in Romans 7:7-25 with his internal conflict of wanting to live for God, but not always measuring up. This is what we are going to learn this week as the newly ordained Rev. Kyle Rhora will be unpacking the passage for us. May you have a great Father's Day weekend remembering you have a good, good Father in Heaven who loves you so much.

Have you ever been under probation? Maybe you had to wait for 3 months working at your new job and then finally you were released from certain restrictions. It is freeing, and you receive new benefits! The rules can still be helpful, but they no longer govern us. In a similar way, God’s plan was to put restrictions on us humans during the probationary period under the Mosaic Law, so we wouldn’t hurt ourselves and others, and more importantly, we show that we live differently pointing back to God. This Sunday we are going to learn more from Romans 7:1-6 about being released from the law and living the new life under Christ through the Holy Spirit.

What are you enslaved to? Did you realize that we can be either enslaved to righteousness or unrighteousness? What does it look like and more importantly, what are the implications for our lives? Lord willing, we will tackle those questions this week as we finish Romans 6. May being Christ’s slave be liberating to you!

Twenty-nine years ago this Sunday, I had the great honour of marrying Lori Henry from Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She is my wife, my best friend, my only lover, the mother of my children, grandmother of my grandchildren and primary ministry partner. I have many names for her: “Babe,” “Lori Lou” (it’s her Kansas name where many women go by two names), and “Honey.” What I don’t call her is “Ball and Chain.” I actually hate when people call their spouses the "old ball and chain.” The description “old ball and chain” is better directed to our sinful nature before we became believers in Christ. But is the sinful nature still our ball and chain? Come this Sunday and find out the answer as we study Romans 6:5-14.

Happy Victoria Day weekend! The unofficial start of summer. Some of you take the weekend to weather the cold and go camping, while others of you are planting your flowers and vegetables as we are now supposed to be in the frost-free zone. For those of you who are not away, I would encourage you to come to worship with us and hear Pastor Kyle teach us from Romans 6:1-4 on how we are united with Christ in baptism. This is a liberating truth, and I hope you will embrace it fully. Have a great weekend!

Happy Mother's Day! I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel guilty as a parent for the weaknesses and sins that I have seemed to pass along to my children. This week we are going to find a lot of comfort from Romans 5:12-21 that Christ is more powerful than our parental sin. He can make a generational change to us and our future family! His grace is greater than our sin whether we have kids or not!

God’s timing is perfect. It may not always feel this way, but may I encourage you with a gospel verse? This Sunday, we are going to study Romans 5:6-11. These verses are pregnant with spiritual life. Paul starts out reminding us that while we were weak, this weakness is not about physical strength, but moral strength. You could paraphrase, while we were morally disabled, just at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.
