Ten Thousand Posts is a show about how everything is posting. It's hosted by Hussein (@HKesvani), Phoebe (@PRHRoy) and produced by Devon (@Devon_onEarth).
On this week’s episode, Phoebe returns to catch up on all the online shenanigans she missed during maternity leave. We talk about JD Vance’s inability to order donughts and what happens when you’re too cooked on posts to operate in the real world. We also talk about ‘Brat Summer’ (RIP) as perpetual, all encompassing marketing with no real end point, and finally address the elephant in the room: Why British people should never be allowed to say the words “Hawk Tuah”.

Aaron Thorpe, co-host of The Trilbillies podcast comes back on the show to talk about Ridley Scott’s ALIEN (1979).
Hussein and Aaron talk about the impact the film had on sci fi horror and monster movies, the darkness and wetness that sets it apart from the more recent sequels, and why the film is actually about bureaucracies and how nobody wants to work in space. Plus, Aaron theorises how the Xenomorph and the cat may have been in cahoots.

In the second part of ‘Slop Week’, Hussein chats to Ed Zitron, writer of the “Where’s Your Ed At?” newsletter and the “Better Offline” podcast.
Ed has been keeping a keen eye on the big financial backers behind AI companies, and he explains why, in his estimation, there is very little run way for AI projects to prove they are worth the money. Ed explains how OpenAI’s promises of building a tech God requires more money than any infrastructure project in recent human history, and how its dismal returns may force it to reduce its ambitions. He also suggests that tech companies in general have run out of ideas, and the consequences this will have both on the internet, and the global economy at large.

Welcome to part one of ‘Slop Week’, where we try to understand the incentives that have led to the internet being filled with incomprehensible, aimless content, and how it’s reshaping the way people communicate online.
Jason Koebler, co-founder of 404 Media and the host of the 404 Media podcast, joins us to talk about his recent investigation into junk AI on Facebook, and the the Indian Youtube influencers making online courses teaching people how to make slop around the clock. Jason explains how the creation of AI Slop is much more calculated and structured than we would otherwise think, how Facebook/Meta uses Indian slop creators to test and train its AI, and whether the internet could malfunction if AI projects are abandoned, leaving behind a whole trail of nonsensical images in its wake.

We’re joined by journalist Chris Stokel-Walker, author of How AI Ate The World: A Brief History of Artificial Intelligence – and Its Long Future, to talk about the UK’s responses to the recent nation-wide race riots, and in particular, how it’s dealing with a certain tech CEO spreading overtly racist disinformation. Chris talks about the Online Safety Act and where it might be expanded in the aftermath of the riots, the challenges of prosecuting Elon Musk, and why any chance of avoiding future outbreaks would require the government to understand social media use through the lens of public health, rather than a problem requiring more technological solutions.

Friend of the show Sarah Hagi returns to the show to talk about growing up on the internet. Sarah recalls the creative methods she would employ to subvert her parents’ restrictions on her internet use, why she never had a MySpace phase, and of course, the curse- benefit analysis of still using Twitter. We also talk about the added performative expectations social media placed on millennials in the 2010s, and the struggles to move beyond that as we age out of internet culture. Plus, an update from friend of the show Jordan Peterson.
