Love and excitement on an authentic western ranch

Iâve always dreamed of living on a Western ranch. Interesting details and character interactions with the setting and cattle and horse stock make Trimbleâs ranch come alive. Suspense builds with harrowing scenes of the historic eruption of Mt St. Helens. A tender love story draws your heart into âTenderfootâ.

Explosive but Subtle

Mary Trimble confesses not to have been born and raised on a ranch. In Tenderfoot, she nevertheless provides the reader an accurate account of ranch life back in 1980. We see its day-to-day procedures and problems through the eyes of recently-divorced Corrie Stevens, a âtenderfootâ writer who moves into a run-down cabin on J McClureâs ranch in Washington State, in order to learn and write about cattle ranching. Deeply hurt by her ex-husbandâs infidelities, Corrie never wants any such involvement again; J, whose wife has died, is raising his daughter alone, and has his hands full keeping the ranch going. Tension builds as the two fall in love, resisting all the way, while Mt. St. Helens quakes, bulges and spouts warning jets of ash. The explosive ending comes with the authorâs convincing account of the disastrous eruption of the volcano, which the reader experiences through the struggles and sufferings of the protagonists. Highly recommended.

Exciting, emotional, gripping

TENDERFOOT by Mary E. Trimble is an exciting, emotional, gripping Western romance set in the spring of 1980 on a Washington cattle ranch â a ranch in the shadow of the beautiful, dangerous, unstable volcanic mountain Mt. St. Helens.

Ms. Trimble's extensive research, empathy, and gift for creating a fully detailed world and complex, relatable characters brings every bit of this story to vivid life. I felt completely involved in every moment of these characters' lives, from the ordinary: a frustrated, worried father's uncertainty in dealing with his moody teenaged daughter, to the extraordinary: the life-and-death struggle for survival when the mountain explodes.

There is not a single dull nor false moment in this story. It's intensely involving and very, very hard to put down. TENDERFOOT is one of the best books I've read this year, and I highly recommend it!

An erupting love affair.

Corrie Stephens needs a fresh start from the hectic city that Seattle, WA offers and finds one on a ten-thousand acre cattle ranch owned by J McClure close to Clearwater. She is bound and determined to learn all she can about ranching, but when there is talk of a rumbling Mount St. Helen her focus shifts. Her interests are not on Mr. McClure, although his attention in stuck on his loneliness and the beautiful woman living in the rundown cabin on his land. She, as any good writer would do, ends up on the mountain as it blows in 1980. I was a sophomore in high school when Mount St. Helen blew.
