Can Best Friends Remain So After Intimacy Ends?

Let's Be Just Friends by Camilla Isley is an admirable attempt in the "new adult" market with a believable plot and realistic characters. The title gives you a major hint where the story is headed before it even begins. It is basically a classic love triangle between two law school students and one of their childhood (and long-term) best friends. The story begins after Rose is dumped by her live-in boyfriend and after being displaced by the break-up, she moves into her best friend Tyler's apartment on a temporary basis. This doesn't make Tyler's girlfriend Georgiana very happy who demands that Rose move out of the apartment. Of course, Tyler is conflicted and while he adamantly denies any love interest with Rose, his actions speak louder than words.

While I love Camilla Isley's writing style, I found myself disliking Tyler and Georgiana immensely. I couldn't help but imagine Georgiana's character was a characterization of horrible girlfriend Monique from the She's the Man movie with Amanda Bynes. And Tyler was too much a womanizer who is sleeping with two women, telling the second girlfriend (Rose) that he'll breakup with the first one any day now. [I knew too many college friends who succumbed to the charms of sweet-talking playboys and waited 2-3 years for the breakup that never happened. Unfortunately, I see the same behavior in too many adult women who get involved in affairs with married men and the majority of these men do not divorce their wives.] Thankfully Rose sees reason after only a few months, and she puts an end to the sexual trysts with Tyler. One thing that I really admired in the story is how it ended - with Rose and Tyler back to being just friends.

Jared (the whore) and Lily (the drugged numb princess). What a combo these 2 made. The virginal princess who killed her guard and trudged across sectors to 4 the night her husband was killed and Ace's best friend and no stranger to women or Eden. I loved that he and Ace were so tight and therefore we got see A LOT **Ahem** of Ace/Rachel/Cruz. Also, I suspect Gia will get her HEA also. Parts of this book had me squirming. I did feel like the chemistry was a little off, but the more Lili figured out who she was, the better the story was for me.

As always the Beyond series doesn't disappoint!

Another great book by Kit Roche and Lucy Malone. I couldn't wait until it came out and I couldn't stop listening. It was great even with the fringe characters of Jared and Lilly brought to the center showing more about the Sectors and Eden. Please write more!

Another Excellent audio in the London Lovers!

A Broken Us takes us right back to where Becoming Us ended and is an excellent continuation, moving us where we want to go - London and its mad cast of characters. The book was very emotional with some very rough roads for Finley and Brody. I really appreciate Amy Daws' writing and her realism. The end of every book shouldn't always be tied up with a perfect bow on it and she appreciates that. Sometimes your HEA isn't the story you've written for yourself, but the one that finds you and shows you a new way to peace and joy.

The narration was good, but the male voices need some work. Overall a great listen - highly recommend!

Not my favorite Daws book, but it got better...

The beginning was good and the end was terrific. The middle however did drag a little long. I am not a fan of stories that are dragged out because the female lead has a secret she won't share and holds that secret way too long. It seems like forced angst. I am so glad the the beginning was good and I stuck around until the end of the book though- the end really brought things together. It was emotional and beautiful.

Emma Lysy gives a solid performance. I think I would like to hear another book before I decide if she was a "go to narrator" for me. Her voice was a little rushed and whiny in places for the female lead but her secondary characters were great. The accents for both the male and females were spot on.

3 Meh Stars

I wanted to love this book but its the same narrator as book one I dont know what it is about her voice; I just played it on 2.5x speed. I wanted to listen through because well I paid for it.

I loved Brody throughout this whole book. But I find he isnt the same Brody described in the later books (which I read first and LOVED). But he is the one of the reasons I fought through the narrators voice. Its not a bad book if you liked book one, you will like book 2.

Fin I have a love, hate relationship. I just found her character to be selfish and maybe a little immature. No I am not heartless I get her struggles but she didnt anyone in either. And that is what I dont understand. She has this huge wonderful support system that would fall all over themselves for her, and she didnt even give them a chance.

I dont like one darn thing she did in this book. Well except when she is with her sister. Those were the best and saddest parts of the whole book for me.

Now please dont think I didnt like the book because I liked parts of it.

Griffin...Griffin...Griffin...

Narration, R. D. Lindo - OK, His narration was good, I just thought a few of his tertiary characters were either stereotypes or over the top. His main characters of Griffin, Anna and the majority of the band and his story telling were fine, so it was perfectly fine to listen to the majority of the book!

So, the book starts out with a note from the author about everyone's requests for more of Griffin, and how she hopes we will love him as much as she does. I was expecting some thoughts on the inside of his head that would make him endearing, and the stuff that came out of his mouth would be... well, Griffin.

Nope... With Griffin, what you see is what you get! I could not stand him. His thoughts were selfish, rude and pretty much absolutely identical to what comes out of his mouth. I kept thinking - "hmmmm...I'm not really seeing that she's making a case for me to fall in love with Griffin" And the farther you get into the book, the more you'll want to strangle the life out of him. He was right on up there with Kiera in my book.

So new shelf on Goodreads - in honor of Griffin -

"Liar, Liar Pants on Fire"

He dug himself a liars pit sooooo deep, I could see no way for him to crawl out of it, and certainly no way for him to redeem himself.

Then, I LOVED this book, I loved Griffin, I cried. Griffin redeemed himself. The author wasn't crazy after all. The thoughts in his head changed. His heart changed. The band changed. Everything changed. But wait!

S.C. Stephens! What in the heck did you just do????? I was so damn sad for him that I thought my heart would break and I was cussing S.C. for what she decided to do with this character. I didn't just cry...

Brilliant & Skillfully Executed-My FAV Marked Man!

OMG! Jay Crownover really hit the ball out of the proverbial ballpark! This installment was excellent! To date, it's my favorite Marked Man couple. Rowdy St. Claire's sweet southern, yet quiet charm was always appealing to me, and I'm so glad we got to explore his story--And, what a story it was!

Initially, I was worried that Crownover was going to exploit and try to remediate a taboo triangle between Rowdy and the two Cruz sisters, Poppy and her older sister Salem. I mean, Rowdy's claimed Poppy was "the one" who rejected him and broke his heart. Yet, Salem was the friend, of his heart, who left him behind when she fled her hometown, in an attempt to distance herself from her father's tyrannical rule over her. Immediately, there are questions that came up for me, such as, "why did Salem come to Colorado in pursuit of Rowdy if he had a previous history with her younger sister?" "What was the extent of Rowdy's involvement with Poppy and Salem, alike?" etc. Well, just know that those questions are applicable and they get answered in the best way possible, and that's just part of this fabulous ride with Rowdy and his exotic Latina-betty page, Salem.

Crownover delivers on all levels! The backstory between the leads is compelling and greatly moving. When Rowdy and Salem finally give themselves to each other, it's powerful and emotionally grounded. These two are perfect for each other. And, the love scenes are sensational with tat on tat-covered bodies with interesting, eh-hemintimate hardware. OMG, yes!!--Sensational for sure!!!

One thing that I loved was the beautiful theme of family that the Marked Men and their women formed. I loved seeing the new "family members" who integrated into this loving group of people. This book shouldn't be read out of sequence because you need to fall in love and become vested in the previous couples, as they are just as pertinent and the current couple. I also thought it was so moving how Rowdy talked about "good luck" and "good fortune" in what seemed like a fluid, mythical quality.

I'll Remember This Story Til Death

After listening to the first two books, I knew I'd love this final audiobook in the series. The author and the narrator are both favorites of mine. And this last part of the story was just as good as the first two.

great series

I'm not much for vampire books. but for my very first series, I have to say, I'm in love. I really enjoyed it.

A wonderful conclusion to Emma & Teren's chapter

What did you love best about Til Death?

Everything! Well, to be more specific I loved the balance between the mythology, romance, sexy times and drama that made up Emma and Teren's new reality post babies.

What other book might you compare Til Death to and why?

I'd compare Til Death to Twilight because one) Twilight is my top favorite vampire romance series ever, and two) because SC Stephens succeeded as Stephenie Meyer did. Both created their super unique vampire universe and then added in cool realistic touches, humor and delightful sexy times. I wanted to be part of the family in each series and I loved feeling that way.

What does Piper Goodeve bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Narrator Piper Goodeve nailed it. She added all the right vocal tones to highlight the emotional moods and she gave each character a very distinct vocal personality. She is simply one of the best narrators in the business, and I'd listen to any book narrated by her in the future without hesitation.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My initial reaction upon starting Til Death was, man, I'd missed this vampire universe. I laughed many times throughout the novel. I was tense when things got crazy and I was happily relieved when their drama came to a satisfying end. I will definitely read Conversion: The Next Generation if SC Stephens is indeed able to write the spin-off series.

Any additional comments?

II really loved the additional couple pairings in the series: Hot Ben and Tracy, Gabriel and Helena, and 2 other couples whose names I won't identify since that would be too spoilery. I'll be curious to find out more about their HEAs in the spin-off series.

Good book

It was well written and sweet. It is a good end to the series. Wasn't trashy or over the top. The narrator is a great reader.

Good story; bad editing

Most of the content could've been excluded. I started listening at 1.25 speed then went to 1.5 speed. That helped. The author over explains and has too much of Emma's thoughts which are repetitive. For the entire series I liked the story but it gets lost in fluff and there's hours between interesting events.

Funniest Nick Spalding Book So Far!

I am a fan of the author, having listened to and enjoyed two other of his books recently, Fat Chance and Bricking It. For me, this book was the funniest yet and I enjoyed it the most. I found it the most consistently funny although it did have its touching moments, too. Although it is part 4 of a series, Love . . . And Sleepless Nights is easily a stand-alone book, which is always nice.

In summary, recently married couple, Jamie and Laura Newman, find themselves unexpectedly expecting a baby. The book starts at this point and goes up through the first year of their baby's life. There are so many funny laugh-out-loud moments that when I wasn't listening to the book, I was replaying them in my mind and continuing to chuckle. From Jamie's baby name recommendations to the Namibian midwife (oh, my), to the birthing class, to the birth certificate fiasco, and so many more events in between, it was almost a laugh a minute for me.

Sure, their adventures are a bit exaggerated, and in some parts, I seriously worried the story would scare off couples on the fence about having children. But really, if you've ever had children, to keep your sanity you just have to sit back and laugh about the experiences. And of course, it is much easier to laugh about it after you are out of the midst of it all!

If you liked Spalding's other books, you should love this one. If he is new to you, he could be your new favorite author. Wilds and Ryan have narrated all three books I have listened to and really complement each other well. It all works for me!

Warning - hysterical laughter ahead!

Unless you want people to think you are crazy walking down the street laughing hysterically to yourself this is not the book for you.

I love Nick Spaldings books. Typical British sarcasm and wit which as an expat I find a breath of fresh air.

The narrators are perfectly brilliant. Wouldn't be the same without them both!

Laugh out loud funny!

I read this series almost one year ago. Audible classifies this book and the rest of this Nick Spalding "Love and" series as contemporary romance. It definitely is humor, not romance. Any woman who has ever been pregnant as well as any husband who has ever lived with his pregnant wife will love this book and this series and the memories they recall.

charming romance

Storyline was very simple. The villain was clearly stated at the beginning so there was no guessing as to who was behind all the attempts at the hero's life. Two things that did not work well against this book were that 1) the heroine kept resisting marriage to the hero because she thought he was a rake. At some point I was ready to fast forward listen to the story and be done with it if I heard, "BUT HE IS A RAKE" one more time. Finally about an hour away from the ending she got her answer to that question and boy was that a relief. The other negative point about this book was that 2) both villains had homosexual tendencies and had no issues with rape, etc. Now I am not gay nor do I have tendencies for exploring, but I am insulted on the behalf of the gay community. Not well done. This story also lacked the clever writing and witty one liners Sally Mackenzie is known for. It had promise but did not deliver, but I still enjoyed reading it. The duke seemed so genuinely bested and the almost sex scenes were hot without it involving much more than a kiss. The book is on sale now but even if it was not, I still found it entertaining enough not to ask for a refund.

A nice duke, his psychopathic brother, a recently orphaned American young miss, an exceptional misunderstanding, and an assortment of real characters are the basics of this fun yet suspenseful mystery and romance. I have read it several times and has always been a great escape.

After multiple disappearances of print copies, I got the audio narrated very well by Abby Craden.

Cute story!!

I absolutely love Abby Craden's voice and narration!! I actually search for audio books that she has done. So the story here was cute, although she was a little naive, even for an American... But otherwise good book.

I really enjoyed this story. Surprisingly enough I think I will ignore the other not so perfect reviews and keep going with the series. I feel that I can trust Sally Mackenzie to deliver an enjoyable story with thrillingly fun characters... I can only hope that they will have narrators as good as Abby Craden who did a great job!

Boring couldn't finish it.

This story was quite boring. So disappointing, because I wasted a credit on it. The heroine was just way to naive for me. I don't mind inexperienced but this was just to much, and the story was just to boring for my taste.
