TPL PODCAST: Talking with Teachers
In this second installment of the Talking with Teachers series. We discussed the anti-CRT legislation and the ignorance of some parents who make assumptions based on appearance. We concluded that the proposed legislation would harm public education and increase the school-to-prison pipeline.
We also discussed the hypocrisy of anti-CRT legislation and the importance of supporting public school teachers. They also discussed the need to acknowledge teachers' impact on society and the importance of standing up for them.

In the first installment of an ongoing series Talking with Teachers, the Tennessee Progressive League spoke with a teacher in Tennessee named Caroline. In this conversation, we discussed the proposed legislation to arm teachers in Tennessee. Caroline expressed that it is not what teachers signed up for and is not a feasible solution. We also discussed the increased frequency of violent events at schools and the lack of discussion about it when Caroline was in college and training to be a teacher. Tennessee Progressive League and Caroline also discussed the issue of the potential for charter schools to increase economic disparities.

In the final part of my conversation with the 360 Collective members Tim and Issac, we conclude with our discussion on the best path towards achieving social justice and what paths might be most viable. We also talk about the skewed political dynamic in the U.S. and where our politics would be considered globally. We also discuss why poor white people would vote against their interests. We discuss what is "whiteness" in the U.S. as a concept including the connection between class and race concerning being marginalized in societies. This leads to speaking about how both class and race are used to further the cause of white supremacy. We conclude this convo by talking about how there is a pushback about reparations and restorative justice measures within the black and brown communities among those more prone to benefit from white supremacy and what it means to win hearts and minds for change. Unfortunately, the events mentioned were in Feb before I could get this episode out, but check their archives and check their page for all their current discussions.

In this continuing conversation, we talk about the history of federal policies for the betterment of America at the detriment of Black Americans such as the interstate system. We discuss the best way to advocate for commercial compensation to black America for the centuries-long practice of wealth extraction from the Black community via the means of eminent domain and depressed housing values. The conversation moves from there to discussing reparations and restitution initiatives and what that path might look like.
