After the struggle, things finally seemed to be working.
We bought a house. The kids had room to grow. I returned to school, and for the first time in a long time, the future felt bigger than survival.
What I couldn't see at the time was that some of the most powerful illusions are not the ones imposed upon us by others—they are the ones we build ourselves. The stories we tell. The beliefs we inherit. The assumptions we never think to question.
But beneath the events themselves, something else was happening.
Questions were beginning to emerge—questions about identity, purpose, love, truth, and the foundations upon which I had built my life.
At the time, I didn't recognize it for what it was. I was still trying to solve the visible problem while something much deeper was stirring beneath the surface.
This episode explores the beginning of that search.
The moment I began to suspect that what was falling apart wasn't the whole story.
