Its only right that with kick-off women's history month with the dynamic history maker, Ebony Chapel.

I sit down with Ebony, a personal friend and colleague, to check in on hear healing journey and her role as a leader in Indianapolis. Ebony also highlights some important issues related to Black women we should all be talking about! 

Ebony is an award-winning multimedia journalist, certified community health worker and currently works as Director of Programs & Communication for a civic leadership nonprofit. Ebony is a proud product of Haughville, Indiana and a Ball State Cardinal.

Ebony's work has garnered recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists, Hoosier State Press Association, National Newspaper Publishers Association and the Association for Multicultural Affairs in Transplantation among other honors. Ebony worked for the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper and Indiana Minority Business Magazine where she held many roles including, editor-in-chief. 

Ebony is now the host of  "What's Good with Ebony Chapel" Podcast! She is a future game changer and a leading voice for Black women.

My next episode will feature a VERY special person to me, Dr. John R. Shafer. Dr. Shafer was my very first therapist.

My mom died in 2008 my second semester of college. I went from having a 3.5 GPA to a 1 point something. What I didn’t realize during that time I was depressed and grieving. I couldn’t focus or concentrate on school because I was hurting. I nearly failed out of schoo! 

One day, Dr. Shafer reached out to me. He had heard about my mom, and my grade slipping, and asked me if I’d be interested in doing therapy. Dr. Shafer helped me realize I wasn’t going  crazy, I was just grieving.

Dr. Shafer is a huge reason why I advocate so loudly for therapy today. He’s joining me for my next episode to talk therapy, healing, and resilience!

Today's guest is a personal friend of mine who is more like a little brother. Aaron Jones is a unique, dynamic content creator and newly published author. Aaron talks with me about his journey to becoming self-published. He hold nothing back about his journey, openly discussing his journey from an only fans actor to a working three-times published author.

Today I sat down with Kevin Hawkins, who I have nicknamed "music's next great voice." 

North Texas native Kevin Hawkins is a singer, songwriter and musician born and raised in the city of Lancaster, just outside of Dallas. Growing up in a household with two musically inclined parents, Kevin naturally generated an interested in music. 

Kevin has sung background for artists such as KeKe Wyatt and Mario and has opened for Dallas legend Erykah Badu as well as K. Michelle. He was also featured in Klyde Warren Park’s Summer Artists Series and headlined the 44th Harambee Festival in Dallas. This past February, he had the opportunity to open for the Oprah Winfrey 2020 Vision Tour; where he had the chance to share the stage with the Raise Singers. 

Kevin Hawkins is a man on the move. He released his first LP “Mixed Emotions” in September 2020; which featured some production by Yarbrough & Peoples Productions. “His obvious anointing and love for music are the things that captivated Cavin and I. Plus, I absolutely love his energy! We believe that this young man will go far in the business and look forward to watching him grow”, explains Alisa Peoples.“Mixed Emotions”, available on ALL music platforms. India K Johnson is a true game changer and inspiration. India is a published author, educator, and entrepreneur. India is the founding executive director of Thrival Indy Academy.  :Thrival Indy Academy is a humanities-focused high school which exposes students to diverse global perspectives through experiential learning and identity exploration in order to incubate educated global citizens and passionate community leaders.

In addition, India is the Author of Marisol's Hair, an animated children's book about Young Marisol a girl been gifted with a head full of magical curls that never stops growing. When her neighbors and classmates take issue with Marisol’s powerful coils, she runs away and hides in a tower.

Belinda Drake is a Black queer pioneer in her own right. Belinda first burst on the scenes running for City-County Council of Indianapolis as an openly lesbian Black women. Since then, Belinda has kept her political charge running for Indiana State Senate and recently being appointed the Board of Business and Neighborhood Services by the City-County Council. 

Belinda shares her journey growing from growing up in Gary, Indiana, to making a name for her self as a future political force. She also shares her thoughts on an important and timely topic.... protecting Black women.
