Traditional pastoralist communities move with livestock throughout the year to find grazing land. Anthropologist Pablo Dominguez works closely with many of these communities worldwide as an ally. He collaborates with them to resist land dispossession and supports local efforts to defend fundamental rights.
In this episode, we share a conversation with Dr. Dominguez about why seasonal movement and the freedom to travel are so important for pastoralists in places like Spain, Montenegro, Chile, and Morocco.
Dr. Pablo Dominguez
Dr. Pablo Dominguez works alongside mountain societies and mobile pastoralists across the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and East Africa to support community-based governance and the sustainable management of natural resources. He is a senior researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).
His focus extends beyond traditional academia. He actively advocates for the communities he studies by partnering with civil society organizations, public bodies, and international agencies. His goal is to ensure local knowledge reaches decision-makers to help sustain the environmental and cultural value of pastoral commons.
