(LOUISVILLE, KY) - Louisville Rowing Club will bring rowing to the heart of the city this fall with the inaugural Derby City Head Race, a new rowing event taking place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the TurfMutt Great Lawn.The event will feature 5,000 meter races on the Ohio River and bring athletes, coaches, families, volunteers, and spectators together on the Louisville waterfront. The event will give the Louisville community an opportunity to see a sport that is growing in the city.Louisville Rowing Club, a community rowing organization serving both youth and adults, is building the Derby City Head Race to become an annual tradition and establish Louisville as a rowing city.“Louisville is a river city, and rowing belongs on this river,” said Riley Kerber, President of Louisville Rowing Club. “We want to share the sport and the community we've built with the city.

Rowing is a team and individual sport in which athletes propel long, narrow boats through the water using oars. At the Derby City Head Race, crews will race against the clock rather than directly alongside one another. This type of race is called a head race, a time trial format commonly held over longer distances.The Derby City Head Race course will cover approximately 5,000 meters, or 3.1 miles, along the Ohio River. Crews will begin near the TurfMutt Great Lawn, row upstream toward the WaterTower at the corner of Zorn Avenue and River Road, turn around, and race back toward the finish at the Great Lawn.Spectators will see crews spread out along the course, each working to complete the distance as quickly as possible.

Saint Xavier High School senior Wyatt Anderson was paralyzed from the neck down with a spinal cord injury in November 2025. Through extensive therapy at Frazier Rehab, Wyatt slowly regained the ability to walk, then run.

Wyatt spoke with Terry Meiners on WHAS a few days ahead of his goal of completing all 26.2 miles of the Chicago Marathon this Sunday.

Trilogy Health will gather memory care professionals from around the world next week in Louisville.

Cara Skrypchuk, VP of Trilogy’s Memory Care Center of Excellence, spoke with WHAS Radio's Terry Meiners about caring for loved ones with memory changes.

Trilogy’s Memory Care Center of Excellence is designed to change how we understand and support people living with dementia, while translating research into practical approaches that can be used by professionals, families, and communities.The Center partners with universities, associations, researchers, clinicians, operators and people with lived experience. These partnerships help guide curriculum priorities, review evidence updates, identify emerging methods and ensure recommendations remain practical for long-term care settings.

Ben Robinson is making his stage directing debut with the company as it returns to the Brown Theatre to open its season with Rossini’s The Barber of Seville.

Ben spoke with WHAS Radio's Terry Meiners about this homecoming. Ben participated in Kentucky Opera’s Studio Artist program early in his career and returned to lead the organization in 2025.

The comedy follows Figaro, a resourceful barber who helps Count Almaviva win the heart of Rosina while outsmarting her guardian, Dr. Bartolo, who wants to marry her himself.

Expect disguises, mistaken identities and plenty of romantic scheming. Ben places that story in an over-the-top 1980s day spa, where everyone is preoccupied with beauty, fitness and how they present themselves to the world. That obsession with appearances gives him a playful setting for the opera’s physical comedy.

Performances are Friday, October 9, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 11, at 2 p.m. at the W.L. Lyons Brown Theatre, 315 West Broadway. Tickets are available through Kentucky Opera’s website Kyopera.org or by calling (502) 584-4500.
