Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of God. Because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 John 4:1

Spiritual discernment is more than distinguishing between good and evil; it also involves discerning the difference between (1) God’s Spirit, (2) the human spirit, and (3) a demonic spirit, and which of these is functioning at any given time. This also applies to how we judge prophecy.
