Who do you want to see on the Texas Tech MBB Staff IF Grant McCasland is indeed the Head Coach?
Its been over two weeks since Mark Adams resigned as Texas Tech Head Men's Basketball Coach. Texas Tech hired a search firm and created a search committee that included Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt, Dusty Womble, Texas Tech Head Football Coach Joey McGUIRE and Former Texas Tech MBB plater Norense Odiase.
There seems to be a clear front runner in University of North Texas Head Men's Basketball Coach, Grant McCasland. Host RC Maxfield goes over some names of rumored assistant coaches that could end up on McCaslands staff if he end sup in Lubbock.
Here are some names being rumored and being connected to the potential Grant McCasland staff at Texas Tech
Barret Peery - Former Tech assistant, now at UNLV
- Love Lubbock
- Good offensive coach
- Well liked in the 806
- Strong recruiting ties to the West Coast (main recruiter for Lamar Washington)
Al Pinkins - Former Tech assistant and current Ole Miss assistant
- Much like Peery, well liked in the 806
- He’s a great recruiter (lead recruiter for Jason Jackson)
- One of the best assistants
Before we go any further, McCasland would get to make the final decisions on his staff. This is a highly coveted staff, so he will have plenty of options. It does feel like Tech will get 1-2 of these names, but as we all know in College Sports, things can change QUICKLY.
Ross Hodge - UNT Assistant
- Could be in line for the UNT job
- 21 year coaching veteran
- Defensive guy
- Helped Mean Green turn into a defensive powerhouse
Ben McCollum - Northwest Missouri State
- Yes… THAT Ben McCollum
- Offensive wizard at the DII level
- Has a relationship with McCasland (very good friends)
- 4 titles in 6 years in the DII level
- Turned down Buffalo HC job
Obviously there will be NUMEROUS names mentioned for the staff, but these are guys being rumored around the potential Grant McCasland staff at Texas Tech

Texas Tech Men’s Basketball: Potential Assistant Coaching Options
The Texas Tech Red Raiders Men’s Basketball team has been rumored to potentially be hiring Grant McCasland as Head Coach, it’s clear what the focus of the program will be moving forward. McCasland is tasking with the job of getting the program back to the NCAA tournament and it’s going to take a strong coaching staff to make it a reality.
There have been rumors that McCasland’s first coaching staffs include individuals like Barret Peery, Al Pinkins, and Ross Hodge, who worked with McCasland at North Texas, and Ben McCollum, who is close friends McCasland.
All four coaches have had their success and could bring that same enthusiasm and skill to the Red Raiders. Barret Peery’s resume speaks for itself, as he led Portland State and has been a high ranking assistant .
Al Pinkins is also well-known for his ability to recruit. He is known as one of the better assistant coaches in the country.
Ross Hodge has the discipline that McCasland looks for in a staff and a great tecaher of defense.
McCollum has experience with Texas Tech basketball, having worked with Bob Knight in the late 90’s and early 00's while also being one McCaslands good friends.
Although these individuals would certainly be good additions to the staff, there are other potential candidates that should be considered.
