Book One: A Class of Her Own: When Laura Chapman's husband of over 20 years passes away, she finds herself the sole provider for two teenage children; lonely, frightened, and determined to return to college to obtain a degree. Then she lands in the same history class with her daughter and finds herself offending the toughest professor on campus.
Professor Andrew Dougherty, still a bachelor at 47, has sworn off women. His heart was broken years earlier by a skittish fiancée. Just when Laura feels that she has no alternative but to drop out of school due to stress and finances, Andrew begins to realize that it is time for the battle to cease between them. He is beginning to discover that his feelings for Laura Chapman are not at all what he thought at first.
About the author: Janice Hanna Thompson is the author of over 80 books for the Christian market. A Class of Her Own and A Chorus of One were her first published romances, both appearing in print for the first time between 2001 and 2002. These days she writes comedic love stories, but still has a soft place in her heart for these earlier inspirational stories.

Good read
I read this book only because I'd read another book by the author (Fools Rush In) that I thought was just delightful (so much that the unrealistic parts didn't bother me - and usually would in most other books). I hoped I was going to get something similar here, romance, comedy, rich characters, but it really was not the same kind of book. That's not a bad thing, just not what I was hoping for. The story was more cliche and the characters not as engaging.
There are two 'books' combined here, the first tells the mother's own love story and the second brings us to the daughter's love story. I enjoyed the mother's own most. It was more realistic, and I thought from the male's point of view, the story was also more believable and more engaging. I felt that I forced myself to finish the second book 'just because' they were linked by some of the same characters. I just didn't get into it the same way as the first book.
I would continue to check out anything by this author and I do recommend the book. And I'd add, if this one doesn't engage you 100%, don't let that stop you from getting another book by this author.
Mother and daughter love stories
The first book finds a mom who has been a widow three years entering college. She has her hands full with a fifteen year old son and a nineteen year old daughter entering the same school. Juggling a job, kids and a cantankerous history teacher, she does all she can to hold on to her sanity. She is a woman of faith and leans on her Lord for strength. The last thing she was looking for was romance. I didn't like him for most of the story but it worked out.
The second book is about the daughter. She is engaged to her high school sweet heart. He is all wrong for her (I wanted to shake some sense in to her). If you love to dislike a character this guy is for you, I'm still mad at him for being a selfish jerk. The author tried to redeem him at the end but all I could think of was how glad I was that she didn't end up with him, but found someone who really appreciated and loved her.
