Texoma Fishing Report - May 9, 2025: Stripers, Bass, Crappie & Cats Biting Amid High Water Conditions

Listen Later

Good morning from Lake Texoma—this is Artificial Lure with your Friday fishing report for May 9, 2025. The lake’s got plenty of water right now, running several feet above normal and stained up with debris in the channels, so play it safe if you’re venturing out.

Weatherwise, expect a classic Texoma May day. Mornings are starting off mild with sunrise around 6:30 AM and sunset close to 8:15 PM, giving you a nice long window on the water. Air temps are in the mid-60s at sunrise, warming to the low 80s by midafternoon. Winds are light out of the south and the bite has been best early, especially with the birds working.

Striper fishing is great as the shad spawn winds down. Fish are busting shad on shallow points and rocky banks at first light; topwaters and 5-inch swimbaits are taking plenty of fish. If you want numbers, anchor or drift live shad on flats and humps in 25 to 40 feet, or work the deeper ledges from 35 to 50 feet for quality stripers. Limits are coming easy this week, with a mix of keepers and solid overs up to 10 pounds showing up in the cooler. Some of the best catches are coming between the Washita and the river mouth, and also on the Texas side near Soldier Creek and Alberta Creek[1][2][4].

Bass anglers are seeing action too. Largemouth are pushing into flooded brush and way back in the creeks, especially around Hagerman and Little Mineral. Smallmouth are stacking on rocky points in 6 to 12 feet on the Oklahoma side. Green pumpkin jigs and Texas rigs are producing, and you can always pick up a few on spinnerbaits right after sunrise[1][2].

Crappie are fair, with reports of fish suspended under boat docks and relating to exposed brush in 15 to 20 feet of water. Jigs and minnows are both working, but some days you have to move around to find active schools. Shallower coves and creeks are still worth a look for slabs this week[1][2].

Catfish are loving the rising water—focus on drifting cut shad and prepared baits along deep flats off the river channels in 25 to 55 feet. You’ll find eater-sized blues and channels stacked on ledges and points. For channels, work the rocks with punch bait or shad under a cork in that 2 to 5 foot range along the flooded shoreline—especially with the current moving in the rivers[2][4].

Hot spots to check today: The flats near Washita Point, the ledges off Soldier Creek, and rocky points out from Alberta Creek. With the water up, don’t be afraid to fish new brush and flooded grass for both cats and bass.

Best baits today: Live shad for stripers, swimbaits/topwaters early, green pumpkin jigs for bass, jigs and minnows for crappie, and cut shad or punch bait for catfish.

Fish safe and tight lines from Artificial Lure.
