This is Artificial Lure reporting in from Lake Texoma on April 19th, 2025, and let me tell you, fishing conditions are shaping up nicely out here. We had a full moon this weekend, and water temps are sitting right around 60 degrees. The lake is still a bit low, sitting just over two feet below pool, but it’s on the rise after recent rains, so keep an eye out for floating debris if you’re out running your boat. The water is stained, especially up in the creeks and back ends of the lake.
Sunrise was right around 6:50 am, and sunset is expected close to 8:05 pm. The wind is light today and temps should push into the mid-70s by afternoon – just about perfect weather for a spring fishing trip.
The shad spawn is kicking off which means the action is about to break wide open. Bass fishing is improving with all this stained water and rising lake levels. Look for both largemouth and smallmouth around rocks and gravel, and don’t be afraid to throw hard baits or plastics near brush piles, docks, and marinas. Crappie are moving up into creeks, especially where there’s inflow and slightly warmer water. Jigs and minnows are both putting fish in the cooler, with dark colors in the muddier water and lighter colors around docks and clearer structure.
Now, striper fishing is really the headline right now. We’re seeing good numbers caught on flats and ledges from 25 to 45 feet. Live shad is producing the best, but don’t overlook swimbaits on structure in water from 3 to 25 feet. If you see birds working, start casting your swimbaits into the action – there’s schooling stripers underneath in 30 to 70 feet of water. The slab bite is just about to get going, so keep those on hand.
Catfishing is a little up and down with the water levels, but if you find flats off the river channel in 25 to 45 feet, anchor up and use whole shad or rough fish for those bigger blues and channels. Prepared baits are still catching plenty of eaters on the deeper ledges and flats.
If you’re looking for a couple of Lake Texoma hot spots, Eisenhower State Park is always a safe bet for stripers and bass this time of year. Washita Point is putting out solid numbers too, especially on live bait. The creeks feeding into the lake, like Big Mineral and Buncombe, are also holding a lot of crappie and bass right now.
All in all, Lake Texoma is heating up with the weather and the bite is only going to get better as the shad spawn goes full swing. Live shad and swimbaits are top picks for stripers, jigs and minnows for crappie, and don’t forget your favorite plastics or crankbaits when hunting those bass. Tight lines, and I’ll see you on the water.
