Texoma Fishing Report: Stripers, Bass, and Crappie Bites Strong as Spring Continues

Listen Later

Good morning folks, this is Artificial Lure with your Lake Texoma fishing report for April 23, 2025.

Today’s sunrise came around 6:45 AM with sunset expected near 8:02 PM, giving us a nice long window for fishing. Weather is shaping up perfect this week. We’ve been seeing mild mornings in the low 60s, warming up to the mid-70s by the afternoon, and a gentle northwest breeze between 8 and 12 mph. Water temps are holding in the low 60s across most of the lake, with clarity ranging from two to seven feet, especially clear on the southeast side.

Striped bass action continues to be fantastic. The bite has been best on live shad, especially when fishing the main lake points and humps in 25 to 40 feet of water. Striper are coming up to feed aggressively, especially early and late in the day. If you’re after limits, focus on those areas with live bait, but swimbaits and flukes worked along shallow points and humps in 5 to 12 feet of water are also accounting for plenty of fish right now. If you want a little more elbow room, drift cut shad in deeper flats and near river channels, especially on the ends of the lake in 25 to 55 feet, is the ticket for some solid catfish action too. Eaters are plentiful along these ledges and open flats.

Bass fishing is picking up as well. Spotted, largemouth, and smallmouth are active, with most of the bigger ones sticking tight to rocky bluff points and structure where the wind is blowing across. Drop shots, wacky rigs, and ned rigs worked slow in 5 to 20 feet of water have produced good numbers, with some nice smallmouth over three pounds being reported. Lipless and shallow-running crankbaits are also worth a throw, particularly near gravely banks as the shad spawn ramps up.

Crappie are getting better by the day too, especially around the docks and brush in 10 to 15 feet of water. Jigs and small minnows have been doing the heavy lifting there. Catfish are biting well on live and cut bait near river mouths and channel bends.

Hot spots right now include the Washita River arm near Alberta Creek, and the points and humps off Highport and Soldier Creek. These areas are holding good numbers of fish and see plenty of bait activity.

Best baits this week: live shad and cut shad for striper and catfish, soft plastics and small crankbaits for bass, and jigs or small minnows for crappie.

That’s your Texoma update for today. Tight lines, and I’ll see you on the water.
