The word refuge in the natural could be defined in in the following manner:
A place that provides protection from the elements and danger.
A place where one finds remedy for their difficulty.Only in Jesus Christ will you find Protection for your soul as well as the answer you need for the situation your facing. God tells Joshua to finish what He had commanded Moses in Numbers 35. To appoint six cities of refuge to protect the manslayer that had killed someone unintendedly. Such a person would need protection from the avenger of blood. The avenger of blood would take on the responsibility to assure justice would be carried out against the accused. The law stated that justice was an eye for an eye, and tooth for tooth. But if the accused would run to the city of refuge, he would receive mercy, and protection from the avenger of blood.
Manslayer: Sinner without Christ “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God…”
Avenger of Blood: Gods Justice “The wages of sin is death”
City of Refuge: ChristFour things that both the Cities of Refuge and our Lord Jesus Christ have in common, so that someone here today would decide to run to “Jesus our Only Refuge”.
The cities of refuge were adequately located throughout the country. It didn’t matter where you were at, you weren’t far from the city of refuge.
Jesus is not far.
Satan says He’s far and that you are far.
Deuteronomy 19:2 teaches us that roads were constructed and maintained along with signs that led to the city of refuge. All this so that whoever ran to the city of refuge would easily arrive.
Jesus is easily found. (Just Cry out to Him)
He’s been looking for you.
Matthew 11:28-30
Joshua 20:9 teach us that the cities of refuge were not only to benefit the Israelite, but also to the foreigner that dwelt in the Land. The mercy of God is applied to all who come to Him without partiality. There was no reason to fear of being rejected. The City of Refuge was open to all!
He won’t reject you.
John 3:16
Doesn’t matter who you are. Jesus accepts all! Both are the only hope for someone in need.
If the accused desired mercy & refuge, there was no other option but to run to the City of Refuge. Without this protection he would be found and killed by the avenger of blood. The City of Refuge was their only hope to be protected.
Jesus is our only hope to find refuge.
John 14:6
There’s no other option! There’s no other way! Both provide protection within their boundaries
When someone ran to a City of Refuge for protection, there was one condition: That it was necessary to live in the city and not leave. If they left the city their life would be in danger.
It’s necessary to remain in Jesus.
Don’t leave from under you covering and protection. (God, Pastor, Parents)
Prodigal come backBoth brought full freedom with the death of the High Priest
At the death of the high priest the accused would receive a judicial pardon. That means they would be considered totally forgiven and free. Jesus is our high priest according to Hebrews 6:20. We know that about 2000 years ago our Lord Jesus shed His blood on Calvary’s cross. He died, was buried and rose again on the third day. And due to this fact when we give our lives to Jesus through the New Birth our sins are washed away & remitted, forgiven forever.
Jesus wants to wash away your sins. .
Run to Jesus and find the answer to your need.
