Kong has announced the private beta release of Kong Konnect, a full-stack platform for cloud native applications delivered as a service. At the heart of Kong Konnect is the new ServiceHub. It features a runtime manager that enables self-service provisioning and day-2 operations of Kong runtimes across different cloud and Kubernetes providers, as well as on-premises.

¬Most open-source projects start as private ‘scratch your own itch’ whether it’s by an individual or at a company. However, as soon as a project is made public and starts attracting both users and contributors it hits the problem of scale. Scaling an open-source project is a bit different from scaling a product. The real scalability challenges an open-source project face doesn’t really come with the growing user-base, it comes with the growing contributor base. In the 3rd episode of this show, Dirk Hohndel, VP, and Chief Open Source Officer at VMware and I discussed the scalability challenge of open source.
