Artificial Lure here, checking in with your Gulf of Thailand fishing report.
Today along the upper Gulf from Chonburi down toward Rayong and across to Hua Hin and Prachuap, light southwest monsoon breeze kept things pretty manageable, with scattered clouds and a bit of late‑day chop. Daytime temps sat in the low to mid‑30s Celsius, humidity heavy like usual, but we had decent visibility and only spotty showers inshore. Sunrise came in around ten past five, and sunset wrapped up just before half past six local time, giving plenty of low‑light windows for serious casting.
Tides along the central Gulf coast ran on a moderate cycle. Around mid‑afternoon we had a falling tide sliding toward low, then a slow push back up into the evening. That dropping water pulled bait off the flats and concentrated fish along channel edges, pier pilings, rock lines, and any current breaks. The evening incoming has been the better bite, especially the first two hours of the flood.
Inshore, anglers working piers and rocky points near Sriracha, Bang Saen, and Map Ta Phut reported decent numbers of small to medium **barracuda**, **queenfish**, and **trevally**, with occasional **Spanish mackerel** cruising through. Around river mouths and mangrove edges, especially on the west side near Cha‑am and Hua Hin, folks picked up **barramundi**, **snapper**, and **catfish** in the dirty water line where fresh meets salt.
Offshore reefs and nearshore FADs produced mixed bags: **golden trevally**, **diamond trevally**, smaller **cobia**, and a few school‑size **tuna** and **bonito**. Boats jigging mid‑water reported steady action when the current picked up with the tide change. Bottom fishing over rough ground still turning up **groupers**, **grunts**, and **sweetlips**.
Lure choice has mattered. For predators like trevally, queenfish, and mackerel, the best producers have been:
- Small chrome or holographic **metal jigs** in the 20–40 g range, worked fast through mid‑water.
- Slim **minnow plugs** and **pencils** in natural baitfish patterns, especially sardine and anchovy colors.
- Soft plastic **paddle tails** on 1/4–1/2 oz heads in white, pearl, and green back.
For barramundi and mangrove species, slow‑rolled **soft plastics**, small **vibes**, and shallow‑running **cranks** in gold or dirty‑water patterns have been strong in the tea‑colored edges.
Bait anglers are doing well on:
- Live **prawn** and **small baitfish** for snapper, grouper, barra, and trevally.
- Fresh **squid strips** and **fish strips** on simple paternoster rigs over reef and rubble.
- Small **crabs** and shell baits around rocky structure for better‑quality bottom fish.
Overall activity has been best at first light and again late afternoon into dark, lining up nicely with the stronger tidal movements. Midday has been slower unless you are fishing deeper structure or shaded pier areas.
A couple of hot spots to circle on your mental map:
- **Sichang Island and nearby reefs, Chonburi side**: Good current, bait schools, and plenty of structure. Ideal for metals, jigs, and live bait under the boat. Trevally, queenfish, and the odd mackerel still moving through.
- **Hin Khao and nearshore reefs off Hua Hin / Khao Takiab**: Productive on the incoming tide. Try slow jigging and live prawn close to the bottom for snapper and grouper, and keep a metal jig ready for passing schools of trevally and bonito.
If you are heading out tonight or early tomorrow, focus on that first push of the rising tide, bring a mix of metals, minnows, and soft plastics, and do not forget a bit of live prawn or squid if you can get it.
