From marble halls to tight terraced stands, this week we’re diving into the iconic football grounds that defined the 90s Premier League era.

We reminisce about the magic of Highbury, the national stage and cup-final dreams of Wembley Stadium, and the proper old-school atmosphere of Loftus Road.

We explore what made these stadiums special — the sights, the sounds, the quirks and the memories stitched into their stands. From Highbury’s Clock End and immaculate pitch, to Wembley’s famous twin towers and cup final goosebumps, to the tight, noisy charm of Loftus Road, this is a nostalgic trip back to when football grounds had real personality.

If you grew up in the 90s Premier League era, these stadiums weren’t just venues… they were characters.

In this episode of That 90’s Premier League Podcast, we’re joined by renowned football kit expert John Devlin, author and illustrator behind the celebrated True Colours football books. John has dedicated his life to documenting the evolution of football shirt design, from classic club kits of the 1980s and 90s to historic international strips.

We chat about the stories behind some of the most iconic and controversial kits in Premier League history, how kit culture shaped fan identity in the 90s, and what it’s like to research and illustrate football fashion across decades. Whether you grew up collecting replica shirts or just love the nostalgia of retro football style, John’s insights will take you behind the scenes of football design and culture.

This week we crack open The Worst Football Kits of All Time by Dave Moor and ask the big question: were the 90s really as bad as we remember… or just beautifully unhinged?

From baffling patterns and sponsor chaos to shirts that should’ve stayed in the design bin, we flick through Dave's infamous list and put it through a proper 90s Premier League lens. Do some kits deserve their place in football fashion infamy? And are a few of these “worst” kits actually cult classics now?
