In our season 2 finale, we go way back with my husband Brett Butler. We take a walk down memory lane, and share how we met and became friends; how an 8 year friendship turned into "love", and what took so long for us to FINALLY get together. (hint; it was me). We also discuss how other romantic relationships impacted our personalities along the way, and how being friends first affected the dynamics of the relationship. This is a funny yet, sometimes heartbreaking, and insightful story of not only our love story, but a journey self-worth and discovery.
ABOUT BRETT:
Husband. Father. Sound Guy Extraordinaire. Outnumbered by women and okay with it. If his voice sounds familiar, you might remember him from his former life as a voice over artist from the cult-classic animated comedy 'Sea-Lab 2021'

In this conversation I catch up with my former high school classmate, artist and social activist Danielle Ellis. We discuss her educational journey and the validity of higher education; how dealing with divorce and her own sexual identity brought her back to creating art; and how she is using her initiative, “Mermaids Bring Water”, to provide clean water to communities, as well as how her activism serves her art and community.
ABOUT DANIELLE:
Danielle Ellis is an Oak Cliff native always ready to share her love of the arts with everyone at a moment’s notice be it painting live or holding workshops through her creative incubator Brassfly Studio. Her art education came from her parents, summer workshops at the South Dallas Cultural Center, attending Booker T. Washington High School of the Performing and Visual Arts and later The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She is also the creator of Mermaids Bring Water, an initiative that provides clean water to communities in need.
Her words:
“In my work I delve into our spiritual history as a form of survival, resistance and celebration. So often the narrative has been that African Americans are so far removed and void of culture. We have retained in many ways our roots and that includes spiritualities from our Ancestral home (Africa). We are of many African cultures forced together on new lands. We’ve held onto the scraps of what we were and patched a quilt into who we are. As a spiritual practitioner with a deep love for our people, I express that in all mediums, which includes creating public/private altars and community service. My life’s work is of uplift, veneration and celebration.”

How does someone who started sewing for fun end up creating a business and an active sewing/crafting/quilting community by spreading joy & positivity? In my conversation with Mathew Boudreaux, we discuss what jump started his passion for sewing and crafting; how a background in business and communications prepared him for creating his business, Mister Domestic; and how a horrible phishing experience brought him to the realization of prioritizing his own authenticity to close the gap between Mathew & Mister Domestic.
ABOUT MATHEW:
Mathew Boudreaux of Mister Domestic learned to sew as a kid, but never really got into it until he had his daughter Helena, who is now seven and a half. He thought it would be a great way to connect with her if he could make her cool clothes. With a new motivation to up his attention-to-detail, the quality and coolness far exceeded even his own expectations. Once he started posting his projects on social media, the quilting world quickly took notice of his fearless use of color and print, incomprehensibly fast output, carefree enthusiasm and humor, and ability to seek out, acquire and share new skills. Making projects from fabric weaving to English Paper Piecing to apparel to the 3-dimensional, you can find his fabric party on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. As a fabric designer, get ready to bring this party into overdrive as he translates his chic, edgy, and whimsical style into an in person experience for everyone to enjoy. And as a community, Mister Domestic is a truly inclusive space, where all are welcome, unless your happiness is based on the oppression of someone.

In my conversation with Jamie, we discuss not only her egg freezing decision , but what happened when she decided to throw dating into the mix; her endometriosis diagnosis and its effect on her fertility, as well as the heartbreak of multiple miscarriages. This story has a happy ending, but is a wakeup call to normalize the conversation amongst women surrounding miscarriages and infertility.
ABOUT JAMIE M FOX:
Jamie’s producing, acting and writing work have taken her across the United States and Europe. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The LA Times and Off Broadway. She and her writing partner (also husband) recently welcomed their first child... during the pandemic.

In my conversation with Kamau High, we take a deep dive into the mind of a journalist. Listen as we discuss how books like 'Harriet The Spy', and Stephen King planted the seed for his love of writing, the high school newsroom the he created and what it feels like to gain then lose your "dream" job. We also get into his current editorial position at The Baltimore Sun, where he was one of many who contributed to the Healthy Holly- Catherine Pugh saga; a series of investigative stories that not only contributed to the resignation of Baltimore mayor, Catherine Pugh, but also won The Baltimore Sun a Pulitzer Prize in local reporting.
ABOUT KAMAU:
Kamau High is the senior features editor for The Baltimore Sun. He has written for the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times and Billboard. Prior to joining the Sun he was the managing editor of the Baltimore AFRO-American Newspaper. He knew he wanted to be a journalist when he read “Harriet the Spy” in grade school.

What does it feel like to move through the world in pursuit of happiness while carrying the depths of trauma? What is it like to deal with the daily battle of multiple mental illnesses?
In my conversation with Lindsay Coryne, she courageously tackles the stigma and challenges of living with Bipolar II, PTSD, and ADHD; and shares her very personal journey; one that has a familial connection to trauma and mental illness. Her deep capacity for empathy and compassion in this area is such an inspiration and reminds us, especially in this Covid-19 era, of why empathy, human connection and support is so incredibly important.
ABOUT LINDSAY:
Lindsay Coryne is an accomplished actor, appearing most recently on the last season of the Netflix series, 'Orange Is The New Black', as well as FX shows 'Better Things' and 'You're The Worst'. Due to her family history and her own diagnosis of Bipolar II, PTSD, and ADHD, she has recently become an outspoken advocate for mental health education and trauma support.

Have you ever been curious about astrology? How do you interpret a generic horoscope? How do you use your astrological birth chart to find your 'flow'? What does it mean to be skeptically curious? Our guest, astrologer and actor Abhimanyu Katyal answers these and many more questions as we delve into his own journey with astrology, dispel the idea of astrology as a 'predictive tool', and how we can all use astrology to align with and unlock our own "personal code." We also discuss the astrological charts and energy as they pertain to the 2020 Presidential election.
ABOUT ABHIMANYU:
Abhi is an astrologer as well as an actor and singer. He grew up in India, came to the US to go to college, did the corporate Bay Area thing for a bit, and then decided to live a more authentic life, and it has been an adventure ever since. He is grateful for a fateful astrology reading that showed him the way, and delighted that a desire to affirm what he felt developed into a passion and now a vocation. Abhi is now based in Los Angeles and is available for astrology chart readings for those looking to align and strengthen their connection to their life path.

What is dermatillomania? An illuminating conversation with actress, writer and illustrator Kyra Groves on the effects of the illness, and how she copes.
Kyra is a daughter to an extraordinary mother; friend to beautiful, diverse kind and supportive people; talker and smiler to strangers who give her the time of day. She is a creative, always exploring one avenue or another, even if it leads to a dead end. Her goal is to keep chugging along, to discover, uncover and participate in it all, and to create more than she even imagines. Fingers crossed.
