Hi Honey, I’m Home! WAS a show. It’s about what happens when a 50s sitcom family moves in next door to a 90s sitcom family. Set in present day (90s) New Jersey, the 50s characters are living in hiding—part of the “sitcom relocation program” because their show was pulled off the air. Brynn, Aaron and Barry deconstruct why they believe this surrealist satire is a true hidden gem.

But Jonathan isn’t joining us to talk about those legendary shows. For our first ever Very Special Episode, we speak with Jonathan about his career in television spanning three decades and over 75 series, including many failed or forgotten sitcoms from the 80s and 90s. He was also generous enough to share some great stories about Will & Grace and Seinfeld too!

AfterMASH WAS a show. It was a spinoff of M*A*S*H...obviously! The show follows three characters from the original series after they return home from the Korean War. Colonel Sherman T. Potter, Maxwell Klinger and Father John Mulcahy reunite to work together at General Pershing Veteran's Hospital a.k.a. "General General,” located in the fictional town of River Bend, Missouri. Much like the legendary M*A*S*H, AfterMASH attempts to balance comedy with tragedy, and we take a serious look at how it fares in comparison to its predecessor.

Trigger Warning: AfterMASH explores serious subject matter including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and poor treatment of veterans. We talk about these themes in our episode.

The series mixes traditional sitcom elements with musical performances, as Joanie Cunningham and Chachi Arcola try to make it as rock and/or roll musicians in Chicago in the early 60s—and we see if they can carry the tune.

Davis Rules WAS a show. Legendary comedian Jonathan Winters riffs to his heart’s content, while bombastic movie star Randy Quaid plays a calm, subdued family man (?) Plus Patricia Clarkson almost, and then actually, becomes a nun. Brynn, Barry and Aaron go down a Randy Quaid rabbit hole, but inevitably veer back into debating whether or not Davis does in fact rule.

But really it’s the story of a sitcom featuring Jennifer Aniston which debuted moments before Friends, and due to contractual obligations could have resulted in the re-casting of Rachel Green. We put on our aprons and serve up the story.
