Discernment is one of the most powerful — and most misused — words in church culture.
We say “God showed me…”We say “something in my spirit feels off…”We say “I’m just discerning…”
But what happens when what we’re calling discernment… isn’t actually from God?
In this episode of Sacred + Unfiltered, Genesis challenges the way spiritual language is often used to label, judge, or distance ourselves from others — and explores the difference between true discernment and personal discomfort dressed up as something spiritual.
Following last week’s conversation on jealousy, this episode goes deeper into what can come after it — how comparison, insecurity, and misunderstanding can quietly shape the way we “discern” people.
Because real discernment requires humility.
It requires maturity.
And it should always point back to truth — not control. Not everything labeled discernment… is from God. Sometimes what we think we see in others…is actually revealing something in us.
