A lot of us learned Christianity before we ever learned humanity.

We learned to call anger rebellion. Exhaustion laziness. Boundaries selfishness. Questions doubt. Disappointment ungratefulness. And sometimes, we learned to treat every uncomfortable thing happening inside of us as evidence that something was wrong with our relationship with God.

But what if everything we’ve been taught to call spiritual failure… isn’t?

In The Sin of Being Human, Genesis wrestles with the difference between sin and humanity, Paul’s uncomfortable honesty in Romans 7, the humanity of Jesus in Gethsemane, and what surrender actually looks like when we stop pretending we don’t have feelings, desires, questions, or limits.

This isn’t permission to avoid accountability.

It’s an invitation to stop confusing transformation with suppression.

Because maybe becoming more like Christ doesn’t mean becoming less human.

Maybe it means learning how to be completely honest before God—and still choose Him.

What happens when the people who introduced you to God are the same people who hurt you?...

In the Season 3 premiere of Sacred + Unfiltered, Genesis unpacks the complicated relationship between church hurt, spiritual abuse, and our understanding of God.

Because sometimes we aren’t running from God.

We’re running from people who claimed to represent Him.

This conversation wrestles with the difference between correction and control, conviction and condemnation, accountability and abuse, honor and silence—and what happens when someone else’s behavior becomes our theology.

But Genesis also pushes back on the other side of the conversation: not every difficult church experience is abuse, not every correction is control, and not every “no” is rejection.

The goal isn’t simply to validate our hurt.

It’s to untangle it.

Because people can hurt us in God’s name without God being the one who hurt us.

So the question becomes:

Have I been running from God… or from people who claimed to represent Him?

Discernment is one of the most powerful — and most misused — words in church culture.

We say “God showed me…”We say “something in my spirit feels off…”We say “I’m just discerning…”

But what happens when what we’re calling discernment… isn’t actually from God?
