    Before there was Katie Taylor there was Deirdre Gogarty from Drogheda a woman who was a trailblazer for women in sport, Despite no background or family in boxing Deirdre was determined to reach the top of the sport despite it being illegal for women to box in Ireland as recently as the 1990's. Deirdre succeeded against all odds becoming Ireland's first female world champion boxer and this week she will share her story in her hometown of Drogheda.
