I’m going to cast a slightly larger net in 2024 and Slow Smoke is my first catch of the year. Their song “In My Car” doesn’t fit my usual criteria of less than a thousand listens, but it’s such a great song I couldn’t keep it all to myself. I’m not quite sure how I came across Palm Trails, probably just scrolling through Instagram, I really enjoyed their two EPs. Their song “Ghost” reminded me of an 80’s song, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on which one. I could also see it being used in a coming-of-age movie, you know the kind, “life’s a journey, not a destination.” Be sure to give them a listen!

Van & the Swells is a defunct band from Northern California (maybe?), that helped me finally understand the meaning of nostalgia. I found Luke and the Swells while searching for a different swells band, there are quite a few, they got my attention with their picture and won me over with their music. They’re a two-piece novelty band from Indiana with a very eclectic catalog of songs. I’m sharing “Life Of A Raisin” because it checks a lot of my boxes and reminds me a little bit of No Application Fee and The Bicycats, two of my favorites. Check ’em out!
