If it’s good enough for Batman and Robin, it’s good enough for Villains (and me)! I found these guys at bassist Aaron’s birthday show at Border X Brewing in Bell. I was there to see 110 Pod veterans, Eastside Agents. Villains put on a great show and I’ve been cleaning the house to their rockin’ tunes ever since. Give them a listen.

I met Gabe of Dancing Tommy at the Folk Music Center open mic in Claremont over a year ago. I had been waiting for new music to drop and just forgot—sorry! Their latest album, Pocket Change, was released back in January. It gave me Rusted Root vibes, which I love. I went with the song “Waiting On You” but it’s a great album from start to finish, be sure to check it out.

I was first made aware of this band at the Bicycats show I attended back in March, Zachary mentioned he and Marisa (who was accompanying him on stage that night) were in another band, Velodrone. I checked out their self-titled album and it’s true what they say, third time’s the charm! Now it’s easily one of my favorites, and I can’t wait to catch a live performance. If you’re craving a little 90’s alternative nostalgia, this one’s for you.

I may or may not have bumped up this week’s band, Deep Waters, because they’re playing a show with Cooli Ooli tonight at Junior High in L.A. I loved the whole album, I Didn’t Sign Up For This, and had difficulty choosing a song. Ultimately, I went with “False Hope” because it’s pretty much two songs in one with a beautifully haunting guitar in the second half. Hope you dig it.

I first listened to “Just Alone” by Aly Jett on my drive home from guitar class just before the time change in early March. It gave me an instant wave of nostalgia, I must’ve played it three or four times on my short trip. It’s a simply beautiful, simple song—in the best way possible. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Around here there are two marks of a great song, it either cuts me deep in my pansa, or it gets me to clean the house. Well, I almost broke a dish rocking out to “Money Grooves” by Keo & Them ft. Greg Spero. It’s a groovy, funky track with a sexy trumpet to boot! Give it a listen.
