Today's selection is from Surah 9, At-Tauba or Repentance, verses 73-89. This selection discusses Allah's order to make Jihãd against hypocrites and unbelievers and the behavior of hypocrites relating to the bounty of Allah. In historical context, these people did not join the Tabük expedition and subsequently God decreed a prohibition against offers funerary prayer for these hypocrites.

Today's selection is from Surah 9, At-Tauba, verses 60-72. It concerns categories of distribution for zakat or compulsory charity, hypocritical actions and their punishments and believers' actions and their rewards.

Today's selection is from Surah 2, Al-Baqarah or the Cow, verses 249-260. These verses continue the story of King Saul of the Israelites and how his people failed a test of their belief. Next the episode where David killed Goliath. Next we learn about the ranks of the Messengers of God, spending in charity, the famous Ayat al Kursi or the Verse of the Throne, that there is no compulsion in religion and lastly, a story of the confrontation between Prophet Abraham and King Nimrod, and a story about Prophet Ezra.

These verses give commandments relating to dowry in case of divorce, guarding one's Prayers, executing a last will and testament, fighting in the path of Allah without the fear of death and lastly, the beginning of a story about the Israelites and their king Talüt (Saul).

Today's selection is from Surah 5, Al-Mâ‘idah or the Repast, verses 78-93. These verses recount how the disbelievers among the Children of Israel were cursed by the words of Prophets David and Jesus. We are instructed not to make halal things haram on our own, not to break oaths or drink alcohol, take drugs or gamble.

Today's selection is from Surah 5, Al-Mâ‘idah or the Repast, verses 67-77. This selection covers a number of topics - the Messenger's mission is to deliver God's message, the attitude of the Jews towards the Messengers, those who say Jesus is God are disbelievers, who was Jesus the son of Mary.

Today's selection concludes Surah 22, Al-Hajj or Pilgrimmage, verses 65-78. These verses drive home the omnipotence of God - to give you life and death, to cause you to come back to life for his Judgment. And it is only Allah who can create life, even a creature like a fly and choose Messengers to spread his word.

Today's selection is from Surah 22, Al-Hajj or the Pilgrimmage, verses 26-38. These verses talk of how Prophet Ibrâhim (or Abraham) built the Kabah and called all to come for pilgrimage. The verses also speak of the good of sacrificing animals in Allah's name and how only your piety, not the blood of the animals, reaches God.
