In this episode of The 1895 Podcast, we're joined by Taylor Anderson, Development Engineer at McDantim.
Anderson explains the technology behind mixed gas draught beer systems and the story of how McDantim came to develop it - beginning in the mid-1980s, when Guinness put out an open call for a gas blender that could keep up with demand from its pubs across Ireland and the UK.
We discuss what makes the perfect pint and how on-site blending benefits both drinkers and bar owners and why accuracy matters so much.
Anderson also explains how lessons learned in the beverage industry have taken McDantim’s technology into a much wider range of applications including welding, food packaging, heat treating and laser cutting, as well as refrigerant and CO2 mixes that replace sulphur hexafluoride in foundries.
In this episode of The 1895 Podcast, we revisit the closing panel session of gasworld's North American CO2 Summit 2026, as our panel dissect the what if scenarios raised across the event.
Joining the conversation were: Bruce Woerner, of Woerner CO2 Consulting; Rich Gottwald, of the Compressed Gas Association (CGA); Jeff Holyoak, of Aircapture; and Vida Gabriel, of TerraFixing.
This session covered the reliability of CO2 supply, 45Q and 45Z tax credits, and whether carbon credits could outbid the merchant market for the CO2 molecule. The panel also discuss if direct air capture is already economically viable, what 100 million tonnes of CO2 from data centre power could mean for the industry, and the need for new sources to come online.
In this episode of The 1895 Podcast, we look back at the dry ice panel session that took place at gasworld's North American CO2 Summit 2026.
Joining the conversation is Troy Betts, of A+ Heler's Dry Ice & CO2, and Stephanie Coleman, of CMC Dry Ice Manufacturing.
In the session, our experts cover how independent producers maintain supply throughout CO2 shortages, the growth of dry ice blasting and food deliveries, and why trust and transparency are key for the industry.
In this episode of The 1895 Podcast, we are live in Houston ahead of gasworld's Helium Super Summit 2026.
We preview the event and look forward to all of the presentations and talking points to expect from the next two days of the conference including the current health of the helium market, how geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could have an impact on the industry, where the upcoming demand is coming from, and the new producers that are aiming to become the next generation of helium supply.
The 1895 Podcast took to the stage in the US for the very first time, recorded in front of our audience at gasworld's North American CO2 Summit in New Orleans.
Hear from our guests: Steve Martin, of 2JCP, and Sara Elkady, of Stormfisher as we discus CO2, e-fuels and the need for pace.
We take a look at if e-fuels are a new market for CO2 producers or a competitor for the same supply, if we should be focussing on pace over perfection, and why first-of-a-kind projects are being held back.
In this episode of The 1895 Podcast, we reflect on gasworld's North America CO2 Summit 2026, and listen back to some of the events key takeaways surrounding merchant CO2 supply, alternative sources, purity and logistics.
We hear insights from Bruce Woerner, of Woerner CO2 Consulting; Maura Garvey, of Intelligas Consulting; Erica Chase, of CleanCycle Carbon; Ivor Castelino, of Bloom Energy; Vida Gabriel, of TerraFixing; Sieg Mueller, of Analytical Science & Technologies; Alexandra Hamilton, of Hunton; and Kari Wagner, of The Greenbrier Companies.
Across the podcast, we look at summer outages, supply vs demand, biogas CO2, the 100 million tonne opportunity from data centre power, why new sources demand new testing, and so much more.
In this episode of The 1895 Podcast, we speak with Ralph Müller, CEO of H2Fly, about the reality of hydrogen aviation and what it will take to move the technology from demonstration flights to commercial service.
We discuss why H2Fly is betting on liquid hydrogen, the potential role of hydrogen-electric propulsion in smaller and regional aircraft, and why designing entirely new aircraft could unlock greater opportunities. We also cover some of the industry's biggest challenges, including certification, infrastructure, hydrogen supply, cost and the commitment needed from aircraft manufacturers.
With H2Fly targeting the next stage of its flight-testing programme and commercial hydrogen-electric aircraft potentially emerging in the early 2030s, just how close are we to seeing hydrogen-powered planes become a regular sight in the skies?
The latest financial results from the industrial gas majors are in, but what do they really tell us about the health and direction of the industry?
In this episode of The 1895 Podcast, we pick through the latest results from Air Liquide, Air Products, Linde and Nippon Sanso, looking beyond the headline numbers to examine the trends shaping performance.
From stronger margins and pricing management to continued pressure on underlying volumes and tighter capital expenditure, the results reveal an industry still navigating a range of headwinds.
At the same time, one theme continues to stand out - electronics. With semiconductor and electronics demand playing an increasingly important role in growth across the majors, the question is, where does the next major growth opportunity come from?
Gas distribution systems play a critical role in facilities across a wide range of industries, from laboratories and research environments to energy, manufacturing, healthcare, and industrial processing. Yet these systems are often overlooked until performance, reliability, or safety issues arise.
In this episode of The 1895 Podcast, Mike Strobel, Director of Engineering Services at Swagelok NYC | NJ | Philadelphia and Swagelok MENA, discusses the fundamentals of gas distribution system design, common challenges organisations face, and the steps operators can take to improve system reliability and performance. Mike shares practical insights on how organisations across multiple industries can improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency through better gas distribution practices.
In this episode of The 1895 Podcast we break down the biggest stories shaping the industry and hitting the headlines.
We discuss Baker Hughes' $13.6bn acquisition of Chart Industries, renewed disruption in the Middle East and what it means for global gas supply, the first signs of helium shortages affecting healthcare, and what to watch as the major industrial gas companies prepare to report their latest financial results.
