  • I Am My Brother's Keeper

    I share about how a specialized unit on the fire department and a story of Jesus healing a paralyzed man have a similar connection. In Mark 2:1-5, it talks about how 4 friends carried a paralyzed friend to Jesus to be healed. This story is also paralleled in Luke 5:17-20 and Matthew 9:1-8.
    I share how a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) is trained to rescue a fellow firefighter in a time of need.

    Other scripture references:
    Genesis 4:9 - " Am I, my brother's keeper?"
    Genesis 14:14- Abraham and his 318 trained servants go to rescue Lot
    Proverbs 18:24- friend who sticks closer than a brother
    1 Peter 3:8-9 - brother having compassion for one another
    Proverbs 17:17- a brother born in adversity
    Galatians 1:4 -God deliver us from this present evil
    1 Corinthians 1:8-10 - deliver us from so great a death
    Matthew 6:13 -  Deliver us from the evil one
    John 15:13 - Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.

    Definition of Rescue -  to save, redeem or deliver.

    Job 27:3
    Job 33:4

  • God's (Perfect) Timing

    In this episode we talk about the stress and struggles we deal with when we feel that God doesn't move when we anticipated Him too. But we must remember that God works in His own way and time. We will look at the life of Joseph and how God used him to save his family and the future nation of Israel. When his brothers thought he would  have revenge on them, he tells them in Genesis 50:19, " Do not be afraid, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people."

    Joseph's dreams took 22 years to be fulfilled.

    In John 11 we see the story of Lazarus and that it took 4 days before Jesus came to raise him and show that:
    1)God's timing is perfect in that it grows our faith as we are forced to wait; and He alone gets the glory, honor and praise.
    2)God's ways are not our ways. Isaiah 55:8-9
    3)God has the final say. When most want to put a period at the end of the sentence, God puts a comma.

    Psalms 27:14- waiting on God

    Excerpt from Dr. Charles Stanley sermon titled "When God says wait":
    When we are in a hurry to make a decision and move forward rather than seeking God’s timing, we need to heed the words of Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord.”

    God’s timing isn’t just good; it’s perfect. He is omniscient and knows all things in the past, present, and future. The Lord sees every aspect of our lives, including our needs and desires. In His great wisdom, He understands what’s best for us. His divine schedule for our lives is always perfect and achieves His good purposes.

    In contrast, we are often in a hurry to get what we want. Since we have limited knowledge and understanding, we should pray about the situation and wait for God to unfold the path He has for us. But in our haste to move ahead, we often make big decisions without asking the Lord to show us His perfect timing in the matter.

    7 points of God's timing
    1) He is Patient- 2 Peter 3:8-9

    2) God Directs- Proverbs 16:9

    3) His Timing- Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

    4) Live for Today- Proverbs 27:1

    5) A Hope and a Future- Jeremiah 29:11-12

    6) Wait Quietly- Psalms 27:14, Lamentations 3:25-26

    7) Submit to Him- Proverbs 3:5-6

    Yet I knew God had prepared me for precisely this time and moment to use me.

    Hebrews 4:16

    Song by Dottie Peoples titled "He's an on time God"
    chorus:
    He's an on time God, yes he is (oh oh oh)
    On time God, yes he is
    Job said
    He may not come when you want him
    But he'll
    Be there right on time
    I'll tell you
    He's an on time God, yes he is

  • Encouragement In The Times Of Adversity

    This episode is on the topic of encouraging others during tough times of adversity.

    Introduction
    I discuss the life of Elijah after defeating the prophets of Baal and then flees from Jezebel for fear of his life and is in a moment of weakness begging God to take his life. Yet God encourages him in I Kings 19:4

    Ever been a time when you knew of a battle you were facing and praying for an answer to come through it and feel relief and let you guard down, when BOOM, a sneak attack by Satan. Well, you aren't alone.

    Definition: Encourage- to inspire with courage, spirit or hope. An attempt to persuade or urge. To fill with courage or strength for the purpose of raising one's confidence. It implies instilling life, energy or vigor into something or someone.
    Strength- to make stronger

    Proverbs 27:17" As iron sharpens iron,
    So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend."
    Describe the process of sharpening a sword by a blacksmith.

    The need for an armor bearer. A prime example is King Saul's son, Jonathan, and his armor bearer and the battle against the Philistines in I Samuel 14.

    Exodus 17:8-13 talks about Aaron and Hur lifting Moses' arms during the battle with the Amalekites.
    Isaiah 35:3 Strengthen the weak hands,
    And make firm the feeble knees.
    4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted,
    “Be strong, do not fear!
    Behold, your God will come with vengeance,
    With the recompense of God;
    He will come and save you.”

    I Samuel 30- David and his soldiers discouraged after returning from the battle to see wives and children taken.
    Psalms 27:14 Wait on the Lord;
    Be of good courage,
    And He shall strengthen your heart;
    Wait, I say, on the Lord!

    Psalms 20:1-4
     1 May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble;
    May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
    2 May He send you from the sanctuary,
    And strengthen you out of Zion;
    3 May He remember all your offerings,
    And accept your burnt sacrifice.
    4 May He grant you according to your heart’s desire,
    And fulfill all your purpose.

    Psalms 68:28
    28 Your God has commanded your strength;
    Strengthen, O God, what You have done for us.

    Psalms 86:6 & 7
    6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
    And attend to the voice of my supplications.
    7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon You,
    For You will answer me.

    Psalms 31:24 Be of good courage,
    And He shall strengthen your heart,
    All you who hope in the Lord.

    Deuteronomy 3:28 But command Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you will see.’

    I Thessalonians 3:1-10

    Luke 22:31-32
     31 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

    I Peter 5:6-10
    6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
    8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
    Samson in Judges 16:28

    When encouragement is actually a discouragement look at Job and his friends during his season of testing.

    The one scripture that always brings us strength and encouragement in Christ.
    Philippians 4:13
    13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

  • GO! The Great Commission

    I will be discussing the fulfilling of Matt.28:18-20 and Jesus command to his disciples to GO and make disciples.

    Matt. 28.18-20
    In a sense it was Jesus giving His last will and testament to the disciples.
    John 14;16 - "Be endued with power of the Holy Spirit."

    Jesus didn't have a Plan "B".

    Quote by Glenn Shaeffer -" The driving force of the Great Commission springs from the heart of God (John 3:16). Disciples are sent out to accomplish what God had started in the sending of His Son(John 20':21). The Great Commission is accomplish through:
    -witnessing (Acts 1:8)
    -preaching (Mark 16:15)
    -baptizing (Acts 8:35-40)
    - teaching (Matt. 28:20)
    Replicate ourselves in the lives of those who respond to the Good news(Gospel) and the Holy Spirit empowers those who witness.It is to be shared with all people, for all are sinners (Romans 3:23)

    Not everyone is called to be an evangelist, preacher or missionary; but we are all called to share the gospel. (1 Peter 4:10)
    Taking the gospel to all regions.
    Jerusalem to Nazareth 70 miles
    Jerusalem to Capernaum 90 miles

    Tsavah- Greek translation which means to command or charge.
    Moses spoke this to Joshua when he appointed him to lead the children of Israel into the Promise Land.
    Example of a charge were also Ezekiel  and John the Baptist by the Holy Spirit, and God with Adam in the Garden of Eden.

    Moving from a Centripetal force (a continuous circular motion) to a centrifugal force (an outward pushing force) of the christians in sharing the gospel.

    The conversion of Paul and taking the gospel even further to Rome (1400 miles away from Jerusalem).
