Somewhere in County Cork, Ireland lives a young man who can see a random image from Google Street view in Russia and often tell you where you are within a few kilometers. His name is Finbarr, and he's one of the phenomena of the GeoGuessr world.
In today's episode of The 5k GeoGuessr podcast I talk with Finbarr about his journey to the 2024 World Cup in Sweden. We also talk about Russia, other countries he's grinding, and which Taylor Swift songs he likes.
Thank you, Finbarr, for coming on the show.
Hope you all enjoy!

When 0xGG set out to create the map Pain and Suffering, he had no idea it would be featured in the videos of some of the highest profile GeoGuessrs around, names like zi8zag, GeoWizard and ChicagoGeographer. But is the map really that hard? And was making it the "hardest" map even really his intention? Today we learn more about the person behind the map and more about his thoughts on a wide variety of GeoGuessr topics, ranging from toxicity in competitive GeoGuessr to "circumstantial meta" to niche concepts like midpointability.

How do you catch a cheater? What do the maps we create say about our values? In this episode Toro and I talk about about map distribution and cheaters, and the time he got beers with WolfTrekker in Paris.

We also talk about training for the 2024 World Cup Qualifiers and what he likes to do in his free time.
Enjoy!
In May of 2013 Rory and his friends discovered the newly created game of GeoGuessr while in the university library preparing for exams. He got hooked and would go on to become one of the pillars of the GeoGuessr community and create the successful YouTube channel Geography Challenges. There he's hosted some of the biggest players in the GeoGuessr world, people like Fungus, Radu, GeoWizard and Chicago Geographer.
In my conversation with Rory we talk about how he got into GeoGuessr, how the game has changed, his YouTube channel, the competitive side, and life outside of GeoGuessr.

Also special thanks to the many people who have supported me in my GeoGuessr, YouTube and podcast endeavors. I said in this episode I have no friends who are into GeoGuessr, but that's actually not true. Moreover I have many friends who support my interest in it and I'm very grateful to them.
In Episode 2 we cover: the latest GeoGuessr YouTube content, the first week of the Hiking Season, and why No Move is the best mode.
