  • S5E12 - "The success is in clicking send, not if they get back to you"

Get ready for an energised, uplifting and empowering episode with today's guest Brian Patacca!

Brian helps actors get what they want without all the struggle. Known as "The Representation Whisperer" for helping over 500 actors find representation through his popular online courses and entertaining podcast, Brian teaches actors how to market themselves authentically and use gratitude to open doors.

Brian believes whole heartedly in actors, performers and creatives following their purpose, instead of playing by a tired set of industry rules. In focussing on what they have to offer instead of what they feel they need to do and say, actors can skip the drama, generate momentum, and build excitement around who they are and what they love to do the most. This is a fabulous listen for all actors and an important reminder of how much we have to offer outside of just our credits and experience. Grab a notebook and pen and make the most of Brian's brilliant expertise!

  • S5E11 - "Actors need to be with teachers who can hold a safe space"
From wanting to be an actor but being told she was "ruining it for everyone else" with her struggle to learn lines to building a retreat for actors to make a safe learning space, today's guest Steph Upsall has one mission: to revolutionize how we train ourselves as actors and making sure we are being our best selves as a human first and an actor second. Steph's company "Both Feet" offers actor training retreats that are the only training of its kind in the world. Designed to help build humans, not just characters, Steph uses exercises based on Meisner's teachings alongside her Neuro Linguistic Programming and mBIT (where neuroscience backs up ancient wisdoms) practice to unlock an actors potential and give them practical tools to translate to any acting job. Instead of the tired, dangerous ethos of "breaking actors down", Both Feet challenges actors in a safe, supportive environment where you can take risks but learn to trust yourself. • S5E8 - "It's not just babysitting, it's a large job"

We've all seen child actors in tv, film and theatre...but there are whole processes, jobs and a lot of work that goes into making sure kids working professionally in the entertainment industry are kept safe and are handled accordingly.

Our guest for this episode is Arlene De Cruz who works to safeguard children all the way from casting through to wrap. She runs professional training for chaperones and works hard to make sure productions work to the expected standard when employing actors who are underage. Listen to this interesting episode to hear why it's so important for children to be chaperoned correctly, how to become a chaperone, what can happen when safeguarding isn't done properly and the risks around working professionally with children.

  • S5E7 - "We're not here to make money, we're here to get our members acting"

Unless you have experience of one yourself, many people don't know much about co-operative agencies, we sure didn't! The first co-op agency started in the UK in 1974 and since then many thrive in the industry. An actors' co-operative agency operates similarly to a conventional agency but is managed by the actors themselves and each member dedicates a certain amount of time to working as an agent for all other members of the co-op.

In this episode our guest Owyn Stephens, chair and member of co-op agency Rogues and Vagabonds, tells all...What is a co-op? What are the benefits and misconceptions? Including insight into the amazing perks his agency offers and why being part of a co-op may actually be a better fit than having a traditional agent...This is an episode that is sure to teach you a lot! And may open doors that you haven't considered knocking on before...

  • S5E5 - Abuse In The Arts: Across The Pond In Canada

"If an acting coach has to touch you to make you a better actor, then they're a bad f*cking coach."

When today's guest, Nikki, was a young new actor in Toronto she went for a private coaching session with an actor, coach and union member who, in the course of the session, assualted her under the guise of coaching her to 'loosen up'. When Nikki recieved no help from her union, or anywhere else, she courageously took to social media to share her story and soon found out she wasn't the only one to have experienced inappropriate touching from a coach...

As the final follow up to mini-series 'From Learning to Earning, A Story of Mistreatment in the Acting Industry' The 98% wanted to platform Nikki to show that abuse of power from industry professionals in the entertainment industry is not isolated to the UK, or anywhere. It is a systemic, institutionalised, global problem that is consistently ignored by those who are supposed to be keeping actors safe.

In this episode you'll hear Nikki detail her experience, what happened after, the support group she co-founded, and what she thinks actors need to look out for when it comes to working with coaches and industry pros.

  • S5E3 - From Learning To Earning, A Story Of Mistreatment In The Acting Industry

In this part of The 98%'s mini-series about mistreatment of actors, Katie and Alexa speak to powerhouse, advocate and trailblazer Helen Raw who has made it her mission, despite devastating pushback, to make changes in our industry to protect actors and be a support system for those who have nowhere to go with their experiences of all forms of abuse. You may have heard of Helen, or seen her online, but here you get to hear from the woman herself and the person behind the crusade. Alexa and Katie chat to Helen about her experiences of standing up to those in power even as a child, what shaped her as a pioneer for change, the sacrfices she's made, and the trials and difficulties she's faced in putting together her infamous list of abusers in the industry to try and make this industry a safer space for all.
