๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ ๐๐ is up!!! In this episode, Clare and Morgan sit down to chat about the dreaded comparison game. โ
๐It is not uncommon for individuals with disabilities & chronic illnesses to have friends or family admit that they ๐ฅ๐ฐ๐ฏ'๐ต ๐ง๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ช๐ฌ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐บ ๐ด๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ญ๐ฅ/๐ค๐ข๐ฏ ๐ต๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ข๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ต ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ช๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฏ ๐ด๐ต๐ณ๐ถ๐จ๐จ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ด because they feel like their troubles are small in comparison to those of the individual with a disability or chronic illness.โ
๐ It is also not uncommon for individuals with disabilities & chronic illnesses to ๐ง๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ญ ๐จ๐ถ๐ช๐ญ๐ต๐บ ๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ด๐ฆ๐ญ๐ง-๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด๐ค๐ช๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด of the fact that they may not be able to do certain things, may require certain accommodations, etc.โ
๐ This results in a ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ which can make some conversations awkward or difficult when they don't have to be, especially as a patient-provider. โ

๐ We each have ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฏ ๐ด๐ต๐ฐ๐ณ๐บ, don't try to compare your story to someone else's. Embrace your story & support others in theirs.โ
๐ We all have a different way of handling the comparison game conversation- ๐ง๐ช๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฌ๐ด ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ & keep moving forward.โ
๐ Recognizing & establishing ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ข๐ณ๐ช๐ฆ๐ด can be key in the comparison game conversation.โ
