I recorded a voiceover for one of my pieces.
After recording, I felt really nervous. I remember stumbling on my words, and I almost sneezed at one point.
I had that “oh gosh, what if no one will like it” moment, and went through all kinds of scenarios.
Then it got published on schedule, and it felt… normal.
Someone praised my voice. And that reminded me of a mentor once telling me I have a great voice to listen to.
I hadn’t really thought about it in a while. And the thought lingered for a bit.
Then my mind got a bit excited. And started running ahead.
At some point, I had already: – recorded my fifth episode – imagined my groundbreaking success – mentally thanked the sponsors I hadn’t spoken to yet – pictured the interview where I explain how it all started – and retired while it was still fun
All of this before I had even started thinking about what the podcast would be about.
Getting there in my head before anything exists happens more often than I’d like to admit.
Sometimes I’m not entirely sure if something actually happened, or if I just got there in my head first.
The next day, I recorded another one.
If this felt familiar, you might like the rest of what I write.
I keep a library of these essays here: Library
