The surveillance footage, compiled from multiple camera angles dated March 5, 2016, appears to show the rapper, producer and business mogul during an incident that, according to Ventura’s complaint, occurred at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles. CNN verified the location based on publicly available photos of the former hotel’s interior.

 

Sean “Diddy” Combs apologized on Sunday, May 19th, 2024 for physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, two days after CNN published exclusive hotel surveillance video from 2016 in which Combs appeared to grab, shove, drag and kick her.

Tarrant County, Texas District Attorney Phil Sorrells wants Crystal Mason’s illegal voting conviction reinstated, his office announced Thursday. Mason, a Tarrant County resident, was acquitted of an illegal voting charge last month. Sorrells’ office is now asking the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to overturn the ruling that cleared her.

Mason was convicted of illegal voting in March 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison for casting a provisional ballot in the 2016 election while on supervised release for federal tax evasion. "This office will protect the ballot box from fraudsters who think our laws don't apply to them," Sorrells’ office said in a statement.

On March 28, 2024 the Texas Second Court of Appeals overturned Mason's conviction because she didn't have "actual knowledge" that she couldn't vote while on federal supervised release in a tax fraud case. Robin Rue Simmons is the Founder and Executive Director of First Repair, a not-for-profit organization that informs local reparations, nationally. Previously, Rue Simmons was the 5th Ward Alderman for the City of Evanston, IL, when she led, in collaboration with others, the passage of the nation’s first government- funded Black reparations legislation. Rue Simmons is a 2023 University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, Pritzker Fellow.

To date, $20 million has been committed to reparations by the City. She serves as the chairperson of the City’s Reparations Committee which oversees its initial Restorative Housing Program. It began disbursements in January 2021. Several other governmental entities across the country are actively seeking to follow Evanston’s example.

On Monday, Jan. 17th, 2022, Nikole Hannah-Jones, the author of the bestseller “The 1619 Project,” posted a Twitter thread explaining that she was invited to give a speech about King but a small number of members of the group hosting her claimed that her presence dishonored the civil rights icon.

 

Hannah-Jones decided the best response would be to quote King accurately by reading excerpts of his speeches without mentioning explicitly that they were his words.

 

“And, whew, chile, it was AMAZING,” she said.

 

“When I revealed that everything I said to that point was taken from his speeches between ’56 and 67... Can you say SHOOK!” she tweeted.
