A Warning Against Apostasy

A Light in the Darkness
Philippians 2:12-18

This is your faith journey (2:12-13).
* Obey in the absence of leadership as much as in its presence.
* “Work out/at” your faith.
* It is God who is working in you.

You can be a light in a dark world (2:14-16).
* Be different. Don’t behave like those who do not know God.
* Be in the world, but not of it.
* Hold firm to the truth of the Gospel.

Jesus is worth devoting your life to him (2:17-18).
* Living for God is this life’s most worthwhile pursuit.

The Faithfulness of Christ
Hebrews 3:1-6

Both Jesus and Moses are examples of faithfulness (3:1-2).
* Everyone must “consider” Jesus.
* We must be obedient like Jesus and Moses.

Jesus has received greater honor than Moses (3:3-4).
* Jesus is the Son of God, greater than any prophet.
* Jesus is one with God, the creator.

We are God’s people when we obey (3:5-6).
* Moses was a faithful servant.
* Jesus was a faithful son.
* We are God’s household if we are faithful.

The Humanity of Christ
Hebrews 2:5-18

Jesus humbled himself to be with us (2:5-9).
Jesus identified with humanity by experiencing suffering (2:10-13).
Jesus became man so the he could defeat death and Satan (2:14).
Jesus became man so that he could become the high priest, the mediator (2:15-17).
The atonement was made possible by Jesus’s faithfulness to willingly experience temptation, suffering, and death (2:18).
