  • The Bible stands or falls on the reliability of Genesis
    • The Bible describes Creation as six literal days
      • Hebrew “yom” = “day”
      • Morris: “Yom” with a numeric or ordinal modifier always means a literal day.
      • Rogers: “These days have gone so quickly.” vs “These five days have gone so quickly.”
      • Bible genealogies reveal Adam lived roughly 6,000 years ago.
        • Genesis 5
        • Present à Christ: 2,000 years
        • Christ à Abraham: 2,000 years
        • Abraham à Adam: 2,000 years
        • Total: 6,000 years
        • The rest of the Bible refers to Genesis as real, historical fact.
          • Matthew 19:4
          • So what’s the problem?
            • Long periods of time required for evolution.
            • Radioisotope dating methods are wildly unreliable.
              • Based on assumptions
                • Initial conditions
                • No outside interference
                • Rate of decay always the same.
                • Hulalai Basalt (AD 1800-1801) – dated at 1.4-1.6 million years old
                • … many other examples of known incorrect dates
                • Mount St. Helens proved that catastrophes can make huge geological changes (… so think about a global flood!)
                  • Geologists leaned how quickly canyons can form!
                    • Genesis 7:11
                    • The Yellowstone Petrified Forest was reinterpreted.
                      • Spirit Lake after Mount St. Helens
                      • Original tissue is being discovered in dinosaur bones (and it shouldn’t be there if they are 65 million years old)
                      • II Peter 3:3-7 – Good science and the Bible are not enemies!
