Summary

John believes that it’s easier to train a business guy, to learn a no-code or a low-code product to do AI automation than it is easier to hire a software engineer or AI engineer to learn the business. The easier path for the chicken rice hawker is the non-coder path where he goes to become a people manager. John liked to read fiction when it comes to digital transformation. So there are a lot of very interesting sci-fi authors that write about what the world might look like in 5 years or 10 years. So for those of you who are interested in coding, this would be really relevant. I think my favorite app today is actually Google's collaboratory. John thinks the most important thing is to stay where you are passionate. Don't just go to learn to code just because people are saying you should but you have no interest in it at all.

If companies need to enable digital transformation, they should focus on identifying areas where value can be created, to the linkages between how technology and the rest of the business

complement. Jaya believed companies that adopt a decentralized approach first followed by developing a centralized team. This means bringing some of these experts, and eventually, these experts will form a centralized stack. It will be going from a decentralized to centralize over time so that companies can have economies of scale, and yet also have accelerated skills transfer to the juniors over time. Along the way, Jaya shared some stories of digital transformation.

Jaya mentioned that managers and leaders develop a greater sense of mental health stress generated by pandemics and transition use of remote work strategies. Despite that, companies and organizations should adopt continuous digital transformation because of the following 3 advantages which are security enhancement, gaining customer advantage over others, and developing the agility advantage. Damien shared with us that most managers should look at developing their people in AI and managing the change of AI but they don’t. That’s because most managers are terrible managers. As such, Andrew proposed that companies need to do a bit of mixed sourcing of different talents in different arrangements to enable digital transformation. One of the key skills or traits in a manager whether in-house or introduced is the fire to light up the organization: ignite that passion and fan it persistently. This is different from getting burnout from unrealistic expectations of getting fast success. Damien shared that some leaders want to be seen as the agent of change while others want more bonuses. These 2 sets of motivation can propel unrealistic expectations of achieving success. He was akin that to a Billboard story in which the marketing executives invest marketing dollars on billboards so that their C-suite executives can see them, thinking that they have done their job. Damien shares 6 resources that he goes to and his common apps are WhatsApp, teams, and slack. His 3 career tips are to get acquired knowledge be it learning a master's degree or learning by doing a side project, follow up with thought leaders and keep networking.
