The Aisle Diaries Podcast episodes

  • Your wedding-day timeline can be whatever you want it to be!

Welcome back to The Aisle Diaries Podcast. Your weekly wedding planning catch-up that feels more like a deep chat over tea than a to-do list you didn’t ask for.

In this episode, Joella and Sophie are throwing the traditional wedding timeline out the window and asking the question: who actually decided your wedding day had to happen in that order?

From 2pm ceremonies and wedding breakfasts to speeches, first dances and cake cutting, they chat about the wedding traditions and timings you really don’t have to follow. Want a sunset ceremony? A late dinner? Pizza at 10pm? A legal ceremony with just your parents before having a bigger celebrant-led ceremony with all your guests? Apparently, you absolutely can.

There’s also some very honest chat about speeches (including one best man who somehow managed to turn a 10-minute speech into a 30-minute situation), why suppliers need to be considered when planning your timings, and the benefits of letting your bridal party actually have a lie-in on the morning of your wedding.

Plus, the girls answer a listener dilemma about a 4pm ceremony, fire through some wedding timeline quick-fire questions, and finish with one seriously outrageous proposal story involving a once-in-a-lifetime European holiday and possibly the worst proposal location imaginable.

The takeaway? It’s your wedding. You can do whatever the fuck you want.

So, if you’re planning your wedding and finding yourself wondering “but does it actually have to be done like that?” this episode is for you.

  • YOU'RE NOT INVITED.

Your mum wants to invite 12 people you've never met. Your fiancé wants to invite everyone he's ever played football with. Your best friend wants a plus-one you've never met…

Where do you draw the line?

This week on The Aisle Diaries, Sophie and Joella are getting brutally honest about one of the hardest parts of wedding planning: the guest list.

From parents and siblings to old school friends, distant cousins, work colleagues, parents' friends and those people you haven't spoken to in years, they're asking the question every couple needs to hear:

If you wouldn't invite them round for a cup of tea… why are they coming to your wedding?

They also get into the tricky world of plus-ones, whether parents should get to choose guests if they're contributing financially, and what to do when your partner wants to invite people for career reasons rather than because they actually want them there.

Plus, Sophie and Joella put some seriously awkward wedding scenarios to the test in a rapid-fire guest list round including exes, random strangers, football teammates and 150-person weddings full of people you barely know.

And, of course, there's another Bridal Spiral and this time involving a venue promising trestle tables before suddenly telling the couple they'd have to pay to hire them themselves.

💍 Your wedding. Your guest list. Your rules.
