AJ decides that she can't miss Ruby perform in the pageant, so continues on with her to Dallas instead of heading to her "Pop-Pops". While at the pageant, Ruby is faced with cutthroat queens, played by Trinity "The Tuck" Taylor and Jujubee. Back in NYC, Louis discovers that Officer Patrick has moved on, so he heads to Dallas to see Robert and support him in the pageant. When things get crazy, Coco Butter steps in for Ruby, and Ruby and AJ rush to Pop-Pops house. The season ends with AJ's mom arriving with the cops. Will she press charges? Will AJ want to stay with Robert? We will have to find out in Season 2!

When AJ & Robert arrive in Fort Worth, they find out that the club Ruby is supposed to perform at has been closed. AJ wants to go to her Pop-pops immediately, but Robert convinces her to visit his childhood friend first. Robert doesn't want AJ to leave, he's grown attached to her. Robert and childhood friend, Beth (Jane Krakowski) reminisce about the good times, and realize they have more in common than they ever thought. AJ & Beth's son, Adam, also realize the they have a lot in common, and AJ gives Adam a pep talk. Back in NYC, Louis spills the beans to AJ's mother, Briana, that Robert is traveling with AJ. Damien discovers a hidden compartment in Lady Danger's suitcase. And we have a special guest appearance by RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7 stand-out, Ginger Minj, as part planner Tommy.

AJ & Robert's next stop on their cross country road trip lands them in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While taking a break at a local park, AJ experiences swings for the first time. AJ enjoys it so much, and keeps asking to get pushed harder, but slips and falls off the swing and breaks her arm. Robert rushes her to the local Emergency room, where drama unfolds because AJ does not have a parent present. After a few "mis-truths", AJ and Robert escape the hospital with a cast for AJ & a new persona for Robert. Meanwhile, Lady Danger is incarcerated for impersonating Lorraine Brocco, while Damien finds a hidden secret in Lady Danger's suitcase. We also find out AJ's namesakes.

Ruby and AJ visit Fabrige Legs and Teri Tory in Jacksonville. AJ adopts a stray dog and learns an important lesson about motherhood. Ruby and AJ escape Lady Danger once again with the help of Fabrige and her crew.

In "AJ & The Queen" Season 1, episode 6 titled "Little Rock" Robert & AJ finally get a day off from performing and settle in an RV Park in Little Rock, Arkansas. Robert befriends some ladies at the RV park who want him to help plan, and perform in their yearly performance in the RV park. AJ befriends a young boy in the RV park while digging for diamonds, and realizes that you can't judge a book by its cover...that they are both "diamonds in the rough". Another attempt is made on Robert's life by Lady Danger & Damien Sanchez, when they put a rattle snake in Robert's RV. When that plot does not go as planned, Damien & Lady Danger place a tracking device under Robert's RV. However, that does not go as planned also!

In "AJ & The Queen" Season 1, episode 5 titled "Mt. Juliet" Ruby/Robert & AJ get sidetracked on the US tour when Ruby discovers that a Bob Mackie Museum actually exist! When arriving in Mt. Juliet, TN, they quickly realize that the museum is not all it seems. Lloyd Johnson, the "museum" owner and Ruby revel in their love for all things Bob Mackie and even perform a number together in the "museum" living room. Not wanting anything to do with the "museum", AJ finds more ways to make money on her own, and encounters another little girl who, like AJ, isn't happy and is wanting to find her way in the world. Lady Danger and Damien Sanchez continue their pursuit & plan to kill Robert, while we get to know each of them a little bit better. We find out that both of these "bad guys" had lives before which made them the way that they are!

AJ & Ruby make it to Louisville, KY by the skin of their teeth. AJ makes it very clear that she doesn't miss much, and even helps the cops to find Damien & Lady Danger, who are on their trail. When arriving in KY, Ruby warns AJ that the queens are not fond of "out-of-town" queens, so to "be nice". The Louisville queens make it very clear to Ruby that she is not welcome, and even do what they can to sabotage her performance. Damien also calls Ruby, and she answers, and lets her know that he's very sorry and will do his best to get her some of her money back. Should we believe him? Or is this just a set-up?

Drag queen Ruby Red is set to open her new club, "Queens in Queens," when her scammer boyfriend steals all of her money. Encouraged by her friend and fellow drag queen, Louis, Ruby embarks on a cross-country road trip to earn back the money she lost by performing in drag. When Ruby leaves on the road-trip, she discovers that a ten year old street urchin named AJ has stowed away in her RV.
