Enjoy the sunshine today, because a powerful storm system is taking aim at Alabama. We're tracking a significant severe weather threat for late Sunday night into Monday morning.

As the sun sets. Here's the quiet before the storm, tonight stays mostly clear and mild. Lows will settle in the upper 50s across Central Alabama, with Mobile holding near 60 degrees. Up north around Huntsville, you'll drop to about 56.

Sunday brings increasing clouds and noticeably gusty winds, highs climb to 77 in Birmingham. Montgomery hits 80. Along the Gulf Coast in Mobile, expect 78 degrees, up in the Tennessee Valley, highs reach 75.

The weather turns dangerous Sunday night, a line of strong to severe storms will sweep through the state. The greatest risk for damaging winds and a few tornadoes arrives between 9 P.M. and 3 A.M. Have a way to receive weather alerts while you sleep.

Monday starts wet and windy, temperatures crash behind the front. Birmingham falls to 48 by afternoon, huntsville struggles to reach 44. You might even see a few snow showers in the higher elevations north of Huntsville during the morning. Mobile cools down to 59.

Looking ahead. Here's your heads-up for the week ahead, while a hard freeze is likely Tuesday morning. Protect your pipes and plants, lows plummet to the mid 20s. The rest of the week looks quiet and sunny with a gradual warm-up.
