Pretty Helen Standish is on the debating team and she talks to everyone except for Henry. Henry thinks that if he gets on the team she will talk to him. When Henry successfully makes the team the first debate is “the steam engine has contributed more to the progress of civilization than the horse” and they have to defend the negative. Oh dear Henry thinks if he can’t convince himself, how can he convince a hall full of people?
