The Ale Evangelist Show episodes

  • Solo Local Grab Bag
On this solo episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the Scotsman covers a variety of topics, most of which center around the central valley beer scene.
To begin, the coveted uKeg finally arrives, and the Scotsman discusses whether it was worth the 3 year wait.
Next, FINALLY, Blaker Brewing is open, and the Scotsman gives his impressions of the taproom as well as the brewhouse. Is it worth drinking? Is it worth visiting? If you’ve been listening to the show for any length of time, I think you know the answer to those questions, but you might be surprised at the lone criticism he has for them.
Finally, the Scotsman reviews our last remaining local homebrew supply store, Renegade Brewing Supply, and gives his impressions of whether they’re a worthy local business. (Anyone who’s been there already knows that answer beyond the shadow of a doubt.
It’s solo, but the Scotsman can pontificate (or bloviate with the best of them). Don’t miss this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show!

  • Rodbo Is Punished
On this long-awaited episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, Rodbo returns, only to be accosted with a Double IPA from Revision. Will this be the hop-laden elixir that finally convinces Rodbo that hops are not the demon-plant he has made them out to be? Will he actually admit that he was misguided and fooled by the hop-haters? Will he finally step into the light? Listen and find out.
Because the beer world won’t stop talking about, neither with the Ale Evangelists, so on this episode they discuss whether hazy IPA is really heralding the end of the golden age of craft beer.
And because it wouldn’t be the show without some levity, they read some reviews on the biggest swiss army knife you’ve ever seen!
Finally, the Scotsman answers a listener question in great detail about whether you should do a primary and secondary fermentation for your beers.
Packed with information and fun, you don’t want to miss this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show!

  • New Zealand Mania
On this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the Scotsman and listener Dan break open some New Zealand beers. I think the amazement in their voices will show you what they think of these fantastic, but hard to find beers.
Interspersed between these amazing beers, listener Dan will tell several stories from his vacation to Australia and New Zealand. The Scotsman will talk briefly about some New Zealand and Australian hop varieties.
Finally they discuss some exciting news from a local Brewery.

  • The Old Dogs of Brewing
On this short episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the Scotsman flies the show alone and tries the Sentry IPA from New Glory Brewing Company. They bill this bad boy as a West Coast IPA, so the Scotsman talks about the American IPA style and discusses whether or not this beer is classified correctly.
In addition, the Scotsman covers an article from BeerAdvocate magazine written by Andy Crouch about how the Old Dogs of Brewing are relying on some New Tricks.  Is it worth it? Will it save Craft Beer? Is craft beer really worth saving if it means the inclusion of these adulterated adult beverages?
Finally on a more concerning note, the Scotsman makes a heartfelt plea for prayer for the Rodbo family. Details are in this show.
Don’t miss this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show.

  • The Search for Drew
On this hilarity-laden episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, Drew ACTUALLY remembers that we’re recording, so we FINALLY get to drink the Ale Apothecary’s The Beer Formerly Known as LaTache. The well-balanced sour goes down smooth as we talk about various news in the beer world.
Did you know that Annheuser Busch’s craft beer buying division just laid off most of its employees? Is the Scotsman happy about this?
Did you know that certain beers have been linked to man b….well, just listen to find out what we’re talking about.
It was a fun show to record; you don’t want to miss this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show.

  • Drew Is AWOL
On this episode, Rodbo and the Scotsman mock Drew, who forgot they were supposed to record today. They taste a couple of listener donated beers, as well as they talk about the Belgian Tripel and Dark Strong styles.
They talk about blood-alcohol levels and how many drinks it takes to get there.
Finally, they talk about whether or not Annheuser Busch is producing water or just being more honest on their labeling. It’s a grab bag of topics AND listener donated beer, with the trademark distractions and rabbit-trails you’ve come to know and love from the Ale Evangelist Show.
    Don’t miss it!

  • All the Topics
On this highly distractible episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, Rodbo and the Scotsman drink the absolutely epic and tasty Dark Reckoning from Morgan Territory Brewing Company in Tracy, CA. How to describe it? Let’s just say this beer is an award-winner for GOOD REASON.
The Scotsman also describes what his visit to Morgan Territory was like. Rodbo and the Scotsman also have a small disagreement as to whether breweries should have food.  What do you think? Weigh in at 209-800-ALES, and let us know!
The Scotsman also explains a little about Morgan Territory’s history, and it goes back before they were known as Morgan Territory.
Cheers to Morgan Territory for having such amazing beers. If you’re wondering why you should go there, you don’t want to miss this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show!

  • The Return of Rodbo
On this rabbit-trail-riddled episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, Rodbo and the Scotsman discuss how great of a beer location Oregon is, as well as Rodbo AND Takuma’s trip to the Pacific Northwest. Rodbo brought back a braggot from Viking Braggot Company (http://drinkviking.com), which he actually enjoyed! (It was an IPA. Wonder of wonders!)
The guys also discuss the recent acquisition of Magnolia Beer Company in San Francisco, why several other breweries across the United States have closed in the last year, AND discuss why it’s difficult to open a brewery in this challenging beer climate. They had a good time with Rodbo returning to the show after some surgery, but they did have a hard time focusing.

  • IPA Day
On this bitter, floral episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the Scotsman and Drew are overwhelmed by the bitterness of IPA Day as the same the Yakima Express from Silva Brewing Company.  Even after a month in the can, this beer is almost too bitter for the both of them.
They talk about the history of IPA Day, which is a happy subject.
Then, they shift to the recent acquisition of Anchor Brewing Company by Sapporo.
A cool discussion of the history of both of these venerable organizations means you don’t want to miss the next episode of the Ale Evangelist Show.

  • Be Judgemental
On this information-packed episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the Scotsman and Drew sit down with Peter Munoz, certified beer judge, to talk about what beer judging is all about.  The guys talked about off flavors, beer scoring, and what judges are looking for in competitions. It might surprise you to know that beer judges aren’t judging based on whether or not they liked the beer, and that’s just the beginning of this dense subject.
Peter scores the Scotsman’s latest beer, and they talk about what could have made it better, and the guys all try a few of Peter’s beer.
Peter turned on the informational fire hose on this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show. You don’t want to miss it.
